Census data update

[edit]

Dear Wikiproject members, most of the articles for cities and villages in Armenia are still using the 2011 census data in the infobox, lead and body as the latest information. The 2022 Armenian census results are accessible here (you have to download and unpack the .rar file under "CHAPTER1. POPULATION DISTRIBUTION"). Based on the numbers used in the current articles, the statistic that should be used is "permanent population/մշտական բնակչություն". The data for individual villages apparently requires you to open each individual province's file here. Please help add them so the articles can have the most up to date information on population. Thanks for sharing that, Revolution Saga. I had a look at your links and think that the administrative organisation of villages is certainly up-to-date (in regards to hamaynks), though I'm unsure if the population number reflects the 2022 census. In the Syunik file for example, there is a footnote in the header "Number of permanent population as of January 1, 2023, person" (page 371, or page 10 of the PDF) stating the following:
"The pօpulation of cities/towns are presented according to the current population statistics based on the RA 2011 Population Census."
In the following page, pertaining to non-urban settlements, the footnote in the same header states the following:
"The sources of these data on RA villages are statistical annual reporting forms «Age and Sex composition of rural population» provided by the communities. According to this source the total permanent population of RA 953 villages, as a whole and by marzes (regions), have some deviation from the same data of current statistics of population, which are based on the administrative registers of the Civil Status Acts of the Ministry of Justice and the Police (Adjusted by the Results of Integrated Living Conditions Survey), while the latter is statistically adjusted by the migration results of ILCS (as of 01.01.2023 the deviation comprised 8.7% for the Republic). The deviation is mainly due to the lack of a system for registration, exchange, comparison and verification of the given information between the villages at the level of nominal data."
Let me know your thoughts. Best, – Olympian loquere 02:28, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Starting this July, we will see a new contest on the scene - the Developing Countries WikiContest (WP:DCWC)! Think of it as a WikiCup but only for articles and media on developing countries.

Competitors may submit GAs, GTs, FAs, FTs, FLs, FPs, and DYK and ITN entries from/on developing countries to gain points and climb the leaderboard. Points are also awarded to those who review GAs, FAs and FLs.

Armenia is listed as a developing country for the purposes of this contest and articles related to it are eligible to be submitted for points, so I encourage everyone here to sign up and compete with editors from around the world to create high-quality content!

Append your name to the DCWC signup page today!

Armenian hamaynks (municipalities/communities)

[edit]

Hi all, I'm wondering if we can come up with a template for articles of the Armenian hamaynk's, which in the late 2010s were consolidated to somewhat resemble the rayons of the Armenian SSR, though remaining under a marz. I've added information in many Armenian villages' infoboxes and ledes regarding their hamaynk (and wikilinked it pending their creation), but I think it would be a good idea to get a template out of how the hamaynk articles may best be written/formatted. Accordingly, the marz articles' administrative divisions section would need to be adjusted to reflect the consolidated hamaynks. Also, I think it's worth noting that at least one hamaynk (i.e. Gorayk Municipality) was abolished since their introduction in the late 2010s, according to the 2022 census, so it'd be helpful to have a list of the most up-to-date subdivisions. On another note, though more semantic-related, should the hamaynks be referred to on wiki as "community" or "municipality"? Let me know your thoughts.
