Portal:Christian democracy (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Currently an automated pseudo-portal drawing its "selected articles" list solely from the navbox {{Christian democracy}}, of which it is now simply a WP:REDUNDANTFORK. It was previously an underdeveloped old-style manual portal, but there is no good version to revert to.

This portal was created back in 2012, but by the time of the manual version's last revision in late 2018, it was in poor shape: two broken sections (DYK and In the News), and Special:PrefixIndex/Portal:Christian democracy shows that it had only two selected articles, two selected biographies, and two selected pictures. That limited range means that it fell a long way short of the WP:PORTAL, principle that "Portals serve as enhanced 'Main Pages' for specific broad subjects" ... because the main page is actually a much enhanced version of that.

In Feb 2019, this page was converted[1] by @The Transhumanist to the current navbox-based automated version. Per overwhelming consensus at WP:Miscellany for deletion/Mass-created portals based on a single navbox and WP:Miscellany for deletion/Second batch of mass-created portals based on a single navbox, such portals are worse than no portal.

The head article Christian democracy is a Level-4 Vital Article i.e. it is in the 1,001–10,000 range of priority topics, which seems to me to be a marginal set. As of now there @1,532 portals, of which 292 are being discussed at MFD, leaving only 1,240 whose existence is not currently being actively disputed. So it seems to me to be unlikely that the community has the resources to extend portals far (if at all) into VA-4 topics.

That broader question probably needs an RFC, so for now I propose that this portal and its subpages be deleted without prejudice to recreating a curated portal not based on a single navbox, in accordance with whatever criteria the community may have agreed at that time. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 23:23, 22 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment - Old portal, 19 subpages, created 2012-07-08 05:08:09 by User:Thane. A comment by a maintainer, if any, could make the day. Portal:Christian democracy. Pldx1 (talk) 07:38, 23 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - Poorly maintained portal, as noted by BHG. Robert McClenon (talk) 19:40, 23 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - Only 2+2+2 snippets as said by BHG. Thus TTH was right in nuking the old version. The result is a portal based only on Template:Christian democracy. To be nuked also. Pldx1 (talk) 21:32, 23 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep, change version if considered non-standard - The subject is worthy of a portal, as are all significant political philosophies animating world politics. The portal needs work, and I am willing to work on making it better. I haven't been keeping up lately, but if the style is considered non-standard, we can change it to standard. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Portal creator,   Thane — 23:53, 28 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
