Stats table

[edit]

Hi there. I just saw your change to the stats table at Dennis Praet. Good job shortening the notes. :-) One thing I noticed was you removed the quotes from the attribute values (the apostrophes around the numbers for "colspan" etc.). I used to do that too after I had found it works without them. Later, however, I was told it's better to include the quotes. https://www.w3schools.com/html/html_attributes.asp – section "We Suggest: Quote Attribute Values" also backs this up. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 20:58, 3 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Struway2. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Will Johnson (soccer), but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page.

Please don't remove inline sourcing from stats tables in favour of stacking two or three inconsistent and contradictory sources above the table. We're supposed to source each row individually, unless the whole table can be sourced from one specific source: that means all the figures in the table should be the same as in that specific source.

Additionally, please stop changing figures without explaning why you're making those changes.

Adding properly sourced stats tables is a great benefit to the encyclopedia, and where you've done that, your work is much appreciated. Removing sourcing from stats tables, and changing sources for individual cells without explanation and apparently without checking whether your changes are correct, does nobody any favours.

Thank you for listening. Struway2 (talk) 11:44, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and maybe I went too far with the tone of the above. The general point stands: you ought to stop making unexplained changes and you ought to be clear and straightforward about where your figures come from. A stack of sources above a table with no indication which one sources which bit of the table isn't acceptable. But having tried to be clear at the Will Johnson page, I do accept that particular example was far from easy. Where the row source didn't cover everything in the row, I've tried adding the competition source to the relevant column header note: do you think that works? cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:47, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Live updates

[edit]

Hello. If it happens again, go to their talk page and explain why we don't do live updates, and ask them not to (if you haven't already). If they stop, then fine. If they don't, you can issue warnings for disruptive editing: if you've never done it before, follow the instructions at WP:Vandalism#For beginners, only use the {{subst:uw-disruptive1}} series of warnings rather than the uw-vandalism ones, for obvious reasons. Start at level 2 if you've already spoken to them nicely. If they keep on, report them at WP:AIV.

An alternative is leave a message at WT:FOOTBALL asking for help from an admin, mentioning which article is the problem. There's usually one or two about. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 16:03, 27 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the commanded goals, I think it would be appropriate to discuss it first at the WP:FOOTY because it is just unseen and merely made for faster update, especially when there is a goals-galore match. Sheffield Wednesday

[edit]

I reverted your edit to Template:2020–21 EFL Championship table. Here is a reference showing that Sheffield Wednesday can still finish 6th.

To clarify, here is one scenario where Sheffield Wednesday could finish 6th. If:

  1. Sheffield Wednesday win out by large enough margins to overcome their goal difference deficit with Cardiff, Derby, and Swansea.
  2. Derby beats Cardiff.
  3. Bristol draws Preston and Swansea.
  4. Reading beats Swansea and draws Blackburn.
  5. Blackburn draws Millwall.
  6. Cardiff, Derby, Bristol, Swansea, Reading, Blackburn, and Millwall lose any other remaining games that I haven't mentioned.

then table would look something like this.

EFL Championship
Pos. Team Pts.
6 Sheffield Wednesday 64
7 Cardiff City 64
8 Swansea City 64
9 Derby County 64
10 Preston North End 63
11 Millwall 63
12 Bristol City 63
13 Blackburn Rovers 62
14 Reading 60

This isn't by any means the only scenario, just an example. However unlikely it is for them to be promoted, adding them to the Championship for next year before they're mathematically certain to be in the league violates WP:CRYSTAL. Cheers. Bmf 051 (talk) 12:32, 13 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
