Introduction to contentious topics

You have recently edited a page related to the topics of Kurds and Kurdistan, broadly construed, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Kurdish Vandalism

Hello NICTON t! Nice to meet you again, recently there has been a User under the name "Semsûrî" Who has been vandalising pages like Laylan Subdistrict, Turkmeneli,Mandali and Daquq etc. They even opened an ANI against me named "disruption of Kirkukturk3" because I didn't source the Anthem and the Map for turkmeneli(which is obviously stupid because both are sourced) and when I sourced the Anthem they claimed "its poorly sourced" they're even trying to get admins to be on their side. Hey there partner! Just checking in about 8 hours after our last convo. If creating a TG account are not possible at the moment, we can use other DM chatting platforms such as instagram , facebook messenger or anything that suits you , I'm so invested in this topic , and i'm so ready to arrange something to make our changes on Turkmeneli or other pages to be accepted by admins .

If I wasn’t specific enough, if you are disruptive in the contentious topic area you may be topic banned, perhaps but not likely by me as my activity will be dropping. Your friend was to a large extent a victim of his lack of understanding and competence(hopefully you have seen some of their confusing sentences). Hopefully that won’t be a problem for you. @Bbb23 @Schazjmd just clearifcation , as I couldn’t write in the ani page, the comment was made hours before the user kirkukturk3 were banned , I suggested him to make changes on talk page then in the content page itself .

As Doug tried to explain to you, the conversation makes it seem possible (even likely) that you might continue to work with Kirkukturk3, even though they can't edit themselves right now. Here's the thing. We already have far too many POV warriors. We don't need more. Your editing pattern before the block makes many people believe you're likely to do it again. Right up until the block, you've been editing exactly the same way as someone we would just never want to unblock. It's exhausting. Your unblock requests say the right things, but I suspect the reason they haven't been accepted is that many people do not believe they are heartfelt; it seems, based on your edits before the block, that you're just saying after the block what you think we want to hear.

So here's an offer. I'll unblock you (after verifying that it is OK with the blocking admin; User:Bbb23, is this OK?) if you promise to not edit any contentious topics (you must actually read that link) at all for one year - including the articles, talk pages, user talk pages, noticeboards, everything - and if you promise to edit collaboratively. There are millions of uncontentious articles; limit yourself to them, and don't get into fights at uncontentious articles. Zero contentious topics, zero fights with other people. If you do either of those things before the year is up, I'll reblock you and remove your ability to request an unblock on-wiki, in order to limit the disruption you have been causing other editors (the reason you're currently blocked). If you don't do any of those things, I'll remove the editing restriction in a year.

This is a very strict unblock condition. Don't agree to it lightly. Take your time deciding. I'm not doing this for you, this is something of an experiment. I feel we should either unblock people in your position with strict conditions, or not give you false hope by allowing many unblock requests when really no one is ever going to accept.

OK, but ... that was pretty quick. And (I promise this wasn't an intentional trick) I just realized that when I linked to "contentious topics" above, WP:CT is actually "citation templates". But you're claiming you read the link? I feel like you might not be taking this seriously, and it is really your last chance. At least read WP:Contentious topics, and look at the list of them here. Confirm that you agree not to edit in those areas at all. It's a strict limitation, you'll need to be confident that every article/talkpage you want to edit isn't subject to those restrictions. I do understand and did indeed read your previous highlighted styles related page , i did understand from your last reply that you were referring to pages like kirkuk by Contentious topics , to prove that i read your current reply such topic are listed under kurds. Which last edit of mine like was 3 years ago idk ? Only comments were added … i can assure you not editing on any of these topics including kurds or any other topic and i can use my account edits history as a proof for that .

And - important! - no getting into fights/arguments in other topics. The only way I can think of to do that is to assume everyone you're dealing with is trying to help you and help the encyclopedia, and assume everyone knows more about how this place works than you do.
