Disambiguation pages

[edit]

Hello Mark. I have reverted a couple of your recent additions to disambiguation pages. It is not the purpose of disambiguation pages to give all possible meanings of a word or phrase (but Wiktionary might be interested). The purpose is to guide the reader to the right article, so of course only entries that have an article on that subject are needed. See the guideline MOS:DAB. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Information icon Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to List of products based on FreeBSD. While objective prose about beliefs, organisations, people, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not intended to be a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. NeilN talk to me 18:25, 17 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If you were asked to add OPNsense to articles by someone else, please don't. --NeilN talk to me 18:29, 17 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

To anyone reading this, I just want to say that I was not aware of wars that users NeilN and Mr.hmm are raging against OPNsense, nor was I aware of the long history of edits and counteredits on the matter. I also want to state that I'm in no way associated with the OPNsense project nor with the company behind it. When looking for some content on the Wikipedia relevant to my work, and it is missing, it is not unusual for me to research the matter using other sources, then contribute back to Wikipedia by adding or updating the missing information. I can't see how adding information about an open source project to relevant documents on Wikipedia could be considered self-promotion. But I rest my case here, hoping that some other editor will realize that infomation on the OPNsense project is no different from information about BSD Router Project, pfSense, m0n0wall, FreeNAS, NAS4Free, PC-BSD, etc. Mark Martinec (talk) 01:42, 18 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Your accusations are not acceptable. OPNsense developers have been abusing Wikipedia for over a year now. Right after NeilN warned them and their sock-puppet accounts not to self-promote on Wikipedia, you show up doing exactly the same. Your timing was impeccable, which is why you received such response. Furthermore, you could have checked the page history and realize there's been constant vandalism from people associated with OPNsense and their sock puppet accounts.
Apart from inserting OPNsense promotion on List of router and firewall distributions you've also added the same on BSD Router Project page together with OpenWRT (!?). OpenWRT is not part of BSD router project or even based on FreeBSD. That indicates that you might lack sufficient information to edit networking related topics. That being said, please do not attempt to portray prevention against constant vandalism from OPNsense as if there is some kind of plot against them. People associated with OPNsense project have been abusing Wikipedia for over a year. Here are their previous OPNsense pages being deleted because of blatant Wikipedia abuse https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ALog&type=delete&user=&page=OPNsense&year=&month=-1&tagfilter=
There were also many other pages where people associated with OPNsense project were self-promoting. For example they even listed OPNsense on Berkeley_Software_Distribution#Significant_BSD_descendants right after their project started. As you can see, there is plenty of proof that OPNsense project has been abusing Wikipedia and breaking all sorts of rules, so please don't try to accuse Wikipedia admins or me of intentionally removing OPNsense references. This is pure case of non-Wikipedia:Notability (software) and Wikipedia:Too_soon. Thank you Mr.hmm (talk) 13:52, 18 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
