Fair use rationale for Image:Ben Fernandez.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Ben Fernandez.jpg. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 02:39, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

To keep anonymity here, I'd rather not give out either - especially as it might point to an 'expertise' that I stay away from here. Sorry. SkierRMH (talk) 15:56, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

You may want to check the fair use rational you provided for the NNOA logo. The logo is not a work by the Coast Guard, but by NNOA. Additionally, the rational you provided is generally reserved for photos. Logos have their own fair use rational. Absolon S. Kent (talk) 01:48, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rational for Tuskegee Airmen, Inc

Ditto above for Tuskegee Airmen. The work is not a Federal government work, thus the logo will be challenged and probably removed. Absolon S. Kent (talk) 01:50, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

The point of wikipedia, is to give the world insight into a wealth of information. I hate copyright tags, always will. But I understand they are necessary to society today. I started doing this about two weeks ago and am still learning the copyright issues and tags. If you could possibly look at the copyright tags and choose one that you feel is more appropriate then just waste time writing to me that it is incorrect. I don't mean to flame you, but I mean seriously, if it's incorrect, just change it. Like I always say, that dog just won't hunt.

Thanks. DB9 (talk) 01:56, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

True, but Wikipedia won't exist for long if it becomes a wide open shoot out without rules. I was just trying to provide you a heads up to avoid potential future problems. I will take care of NNOA and Tuskegee Airmen logos, but you may want to brush up on the copyright tags before the deletion patrol comes by. I've had a few nasty run ins with a few of them and I figured a small headache from me would help you avoid a major one later. Absolon S. Kent (talk) 14:54, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Ed Rendell.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 01:58, 22 April 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Polly (Parrot) 01:58, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Vandalism

Only administrators actually have the ability to delete pages, but as a regular user you can bring it to an administrator's attention by tagging a page as a candidate for speedy deletion, using one of the templates listed under "deletion templates" on that page. This files the article in a special internal category that administrators look at regularly. Hope that helps a bit... Bearcat (talk) 02:26, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

Non-free use disputed for Image:Ben_Fernandez.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Ben_Fernandez.jpg. Unfortunately, I think that you have not provided a proper rationale for using this image under "fair use". Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page. Note that the image description page must include the exact name or a link to each article the image is used in and a separate rationale for each one. (If a link is used, automated processes may improperly add the related tag to the image. Please change the fair use template to refer to the exact name, if you see this warning.)

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted after seven days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 22:47, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Nnoa logo.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Nnoa logo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:48, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

They sent me a large JPEG file, so I heavily photoshopped it and shrunk it down and uploaded it as a PNG. It's not as good as an SVG but it's certainly a lot better than it was. -- TIM KLOSKE|TALK 00:52, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:George Brett.jpg

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:George Brett.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. Editing Tips

Hey, DB9, here's a couple of tips for when you edit Wikipedia.
1. Instead of clicking 'Save page' after every small edit that you make, use 'Show preview' after each small edit if you wish, bringing along all the edits you've made to one 'Final Edit' I call them. In other words, snowball all your edits into one big snowboulder ^_^. This way, you don't have to go through the wait of having WP save the file every time you click 'Save.'
2. You don't have to add a whole bunch of spaces (aka 'breaks') after text to get the references and stub-markers below the infobox, okay? That's completely unnecessary.

3. When you do put in references, use <references/> instead of {{reflist}}, the latter is old and does nothing.

I hope these tips will help you with your WP endeavors. -Mattokunhayashi (talk) 06:49, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

I apologize if my actions aggrieved you. The file had been up for ten hours before I tagged it; you should add descriptions and source information at the time of upload, not wait until the next day. Unfortunately, the information you put up is a little confusing. You say it's a production of the U.S. government, but the source you got the picture from is NNDB, which is not a government source. How do you know that the image came from the U.S. government and is in the public domain? Powers T 17:04, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

File:Magnus Johnson.jpg missing description details

Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as File:Magnus Johnson.jpg is missing a description and/or other details on its image description page. If possible, please add this information. This will help other editors to make better use of the image, and it will be more informative for readers.

If the information is not provided, the image may eventually be proposed for deletion, a situation which is not desirable, and which can easily be avoided.

If you have any questions please see Help:Image page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 15:11, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Frank Gannett.jpg

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Frank Gannett.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Polly (Parrot) 20:52, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Shane Porteous.jpg

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Shane Porteous.jpg.

If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Polly (Parrot) 20:58, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

File source problem with File:Rong Yiren.jpg

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Rong Yiren.jpg.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 21:11, 25 July 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Polly (Parrot) 21:11, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

Better source request for File:Frank Gannett.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Frank Gannett.jpg. You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. Rockfang (talk) 03:49, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

File source problem with File:Samuel McCall.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Samuel McCall.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 10:34, 1 May 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 10:34, 1 May 2010 (UTC)

You have previously signed up as a member and we are currently trying to determine any members that have become inactive or no longer care to be a member. Pittsburgh event for Wikipedia's tenth anniversary

Hi! Since you're a member of WikiProject Pittsburgh, I wanted to invite you to the Wikipedia Tenth Anniversary celebrations we're having in Pittsburgh on Saturday, January 15. During the daytime, we're going to be having a photo contribution drive where anyone can bring in their digital photos or prints and Wikipedians will teach people how to upload them and add them to articles, and maybe introduction to Wikipedia workshops as well. Then in the evening, we'll have fun at the Carson City Saloon. There will be free Wikipedia t-shirts and other goodies, as well. See the Pittsburgh meetup page for more details. I hope to see you there!--ragesoss (talk) 14:56, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Invitation to join WikiProject United States

Hello, DB9/Archives! WikiProject United States, an outreach effort supporting development of United States related articles in Wikipedia, has recently been restarted after a long period of inactivity. As a user who has shown an interest in United States related topics we wanted to invite you to join us in developing content relating to the United States. If you are interested please add your Username and area of interest to the members page here. Thank you!!!

--Kumioko (talk) 04:07, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject Pittsburgh is rolling out some new features (see our discussions at WT:PITTSBURGH). We are also trying to determine how many members are active, and interested in contributing to Pittsburgh content or coming to our real life meetups to discuss Wikipedia in general. If you could go to Wikipedia:WikiProject Pittsburgh/Members and move your name from inactive to the active or semi-active group (depending on your interest in Pittsburgh issue and overall activity) groups, this would be great. Hopefully in a near future you'll also receive our first newsletter with various information on what we have been doing, and what useful tools are available. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 20:10, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

File source problem with File:William Scranton.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:William Scranton.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content.
