History

[edit]

The Canadian Irregulars are an Elite Invitational Rugby 7s team who regularly compete at the annual Dubai 7s. They were originally formed as the Kurdistan Irregulars when founder and Head Coach Neil Young worked in the Kurdish capital of Erbil. In 2017 they changed name to become the Canadian Irregulars to reflect the high representation of Canadian based players.

In 2019, The Canadian Irregulars defeated Wyvern Harlequins in the Cup Final of the Dubai 7s International Social - Competitive Section to win their first silverware.

In 2021, after a Covid enforced 2 year break, The Irregulars entered two teams in the Dubai 7s, in both the Elite International Mens Open and the International Mens Social. Both teams achieved a creditable 5th place finish after reaching the Quarter Finals of both events.
