Clonbony GAA (also spelled as Clonboney GAA) is a Gaelic Athletic Association hurling and camogie club in the parish of Kilfarboy in County Clare, Ireland, founded in 1936. They play in Milltown Malbay. The club takes part in competitions organized by Clare county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association and the Camogie Association.
History
[edit]The club was founded in 1936 by local business man Tom Malone, who supported and represented the club from that time until his death in 2008.[1]
The club was originally barred from entry in the GAA due to an objection of neighbouring club Milltown Malbay GAA in 1941. For the appeal procedure, Tom Malone, Martin Talty and Thady Flanagan cycled all the way to Thurles,Tipperary. The decision not to register the club was overturned.[2]
In 1983, the camogie-team won the first ever Clare County Senior Championship in Lahinch, on a scoreline of 1-3 for Clonbony GAA to 1-2 for Michael Cusack's GAA.[3] They repeated this in 1984 and 1985.
