Storylines

In November 1968 Mike is born Michael William Horton, Jr. to Mickey Horton (John Clarke) and his then wife Laura Spencer (Susan Flannery). In 1972, a young Mike overhears Laura profess her love for his uncle Bill (Edward Mallory) and is about to run away when he gets hit by a car. Though Mike recovers, he is very bitter toward Laura and Bill. In 1973, Mike learns about Mickey's affair with his secretary and lashes out to leading to Mickey suffering a heart attack. Though they reconcile, their relationship is never the same. When Mickey is presumed dead after a stroke, Mike to escape the chaos, Mike goes off to boarding school. Mike returns home from boarding school in June 1974 and falls in love with Trish Clayton (Patty Weaver). Mike drops out of high school, finds work as a mechanic and moves in with Trish.

Mike is soon reunited with his presumed dead father Mickey who has been living on a farm with his new wife Maggie (Suzanne Rogers). Later Mike is reunited with his presumed dead father, Mickey who is suffering from amnesia and living on a farm with his new wife, Maggie. Mike moves onto the farm with them hoping to help bring his father's memories back. While working on a car, Mike is crushed by a jack and needs a blood transfusion leading to the revelation that Bill, not Mickey is his father. Though it takes time for him to adjust, Mike eventually approves when Laura and Bill marry and have another child, Jennifer Rose. Mike attempts a relationship with Trish, but when he isn't aroused by her, he believes he could be gay. However, he later seduced by Mickey's former mistress, Linda Patterson; the teenage Mike falls for her, but is heart broken when Linda reveals that she imagined him as Mickey. In 1977, Mike pleads guilty to the murder of Jack Clayton to protect Trish who killed him in self-defense. Mike fell in love with her again, but Trish had fallen for his cousin, David Banning (Richard Guthrie) and was expecting his child.
