1997–2015: Early life

[edit]

Kim Kook-heon was born on April 15, 1997 in Seongnam, South Korea.[1]. His family consists of his mother and a younger sister.[5] His maternal grandmother passed away in January 2018 during the recording of the final episode of Mix Nine.[6] He graduated from Yangjae High School in 2016 and is currently enrolled in the Practical Music department of the Seoul Institute of the Arts.[5][1] Kim was practicing violin as a child. He revealed during Mix Nine that he has been dreaming of becoming a singer ever since young and his family has always been supportive of it.[7]

Kim started his training process in June 2011, at the age of 14.[8] He then joined his first agency in 2012, while he was in his third year of middle school.[9] Kim eventually left this agency, after saying they had no intention of debuting an idol group, and was later casted by Music Works after posting a video of him singing on social medias.[9]
