Phillippa Berlyn was a Shona linguist who worked as a freelance journalist and a broadcaster in Rhodesia around the war of independance. [1]

Early life

Philippa Berlyn (married name Christie) was born on XXXXX in Salisbury, Rhodesia from XXX and XXXX.

Career

Berlyn was particularly concerned with the wellbeing and the hardship black women living in rural areas were facing. So much that during the war, ignoring the risks, she did not hesitate to transgress a press embargo to get to them and share advice. [2]

Convinced that the future of Rhodesia rested on a XXX between races, she co-founded "Two Tone", a poetry magazine that published the work of both black and whites poets
