How Barrio Ilaya-Ivisan got its name?

[edit]

The usual name is derived from the geographical location of the barrio itself. It is located in the eastern side of the Poblacion of Ivisan.

Yabton and Pinamasawan are the names of the sitios inàluded within the territorial jurisdiction of the barrio.

Etymology

The name of the barangay, called 'Bilao', is derived from a common rice 'Kabilao'.

Spanish Era

This barangay was established during the early Spanish era. The Olorosos, Odquiers, Olanos, Omnes, and Oros were the oldest family that started the early establishment. Kapitan (captain) Jose Oloroso oversaw the first administration to be created during the Spanish colonial era. Agriculture received a lot of attention under Kapitan Francisco Orleans' rule.

World War II

During World War II, the Japanese forces established a garrison in Sitio Bugasongan. This barangay endured significant destruction, including damage to buildings, loss of lives, and destruction of properties.
