Mike Lemaire[2] (Born June 24, 1986) is a French-American professional Muay Thai kickboxer and mixed martial artist. Known for his use of knees and accurate striking [3] WCK Muay Thai world Champion & World Boxing Council (WBC) national Champ is currently signed to GLORY.[4]

Early Life

[edit]

Mike Lemaire was born in France and raise along the french riviera. His parents divorced shortly after he graduated high school; at which point he moved to the states and studied international business in Boston, Hawaii Pacific State University and then San Diego State University. [5]

Lemaire's father a judo black belt, introduced his son to martial art at the young age of four. He started training in other forms of martial arts later at the age of twelve, including Karate and kickboxing.[6]

Career

[edit]

Professional career

[edit]

Mike Lemaire started his Muay Thai Kickboxing career when he settled in San Diego, California, USA where he started training under Kru Anan, a former six time world champion. [7]After going undefeated in his amateur career with all wins via ko's, Lemaire transitioned to the pro Level under the guidance of coach Melchor Menor, another former Muay Thai World Champion. After competing at the pro level for under a year he won the eight-man Road to Glory Tournament and signed a one-year contract with GLORY. [8][9]

Mike Lemaire won the WBC Muay Thai Cruiserweight National Title with a first round technical knockout of Ryan Madigan. Early in the first round after some exchanged strikes Madigan fell to the canvas clutching his right knee. Lemaire starts out strong with a flying knee attempt followed with a elbow, but Madigan fell to his back clutching his knee again and the fight was stopped.[10][11]

Shortly after Lemaire captured the 2013 WCK Muay Thai World Champion against fellow San Diego resident Andy Murad.[12]

GLORY (2013-present)

[edit]

Lemaire made his GLORY debut when he competed in and won the eight-man 85 kg/187 lb tournament at in Los Angeles, California on February 9, 2013. Going undefeated for three consecutive victories in one evening. Mike Lemaire of San Diego, Calif. was victorious against Evgeny Zotov via KO – Round 2 (:48), defeated Andrew Kapel via split decision (after sudden victory round) - sudden victory round scores: 10-9, 9-10, 10-9 & won the tournament via KO against Eddie Walker [13][14]

For his first fight under contract, Glory 9: New York in New York City on June 22, 2013, Lemaire lost against Wayne Barrett (kickboxer) by TKO. In the second round, Barrett dropped Lemaire with a knee before stopping him with a left hook followed by a right cross, tarnishing his previously undefeated perfect record.[15][16][17]

Lemaire lost his second Glory fight against competitor Robert Thomas, when Thomas landed two right hooks that drop Lemaire to the canvas. [18][19]

For his 3rd Glory match up Lemaire was able to score extremely effectively against Casey Greene. He was able to outstrike Greene and do the most damage with counter hook combinations. With a heavy emphasis on body kicks and jabs, Lemaire took the third round and fight. Lemaire takes the decision victory in front of his home crowd in San Diego.[20]

In the Last Man Standing reserve bout, middleweight Mike Lemaire earned a decision win over UFC veteran Dustin Jacoby. Lemaire scored early with his kicks and continued to fight hard through the third round winning the fight by decision. [21] He is scheduled to fight Jacoby again, this upcoming month on February 26, 2016 in Chicago, for the GLORY 27: Middleweight Tournament Semi-Final Bout B [22][23]

Other work

[edit]

On top of his own professional career, Lemarie is an instructor and coach. As a distinguished member of the Art of Eight Training & Fitness coaching staff, the gym's name refers to the “science of eight limbs” an ancient Thai fighting technique. This art focuses on the ability to execute strikes using eight points of contact; hands, elbows, knees and feet. Lemaire teaches his students one on one & in group settings, very mindful of focusing and teaching students proper technique. Mike currently fights professionally in MMA and teaches Muay Thai and boxing at AO8. [24]
