I am a native speaker of English, am able to use Spanish with a high degree of competence, and have a fair reading knowledge of French and Portuguese.

I have lived most of my life in Gt. Britain and Uruguay, being currently resident in the latter country, and have dual British and Uruguayan nationality. I had an extended period of residence in the Republic of the Philippines and a short period of residence in Canada.

I am male, between 50 and 60 years of age, a victim of heightism, and have a partial physical disability. I am married with no children.

I am a university graduate with postgraduate qualifications. All of my formal education took place in Gt. Britain and I consider my informal education to be ongoing.

My main occupation is in the education industry (university and equivalent level). I also do some translating work.

I am a militant non-smoker, take no addictive or recreational drugs (except books) and enjoy a wide variety (and large quantity) of food.

I belong to no political party and would describe my political position as being moderate Anarcho-Fascist. I am a lapsed Anglican and former Atheist. At present I am a follower, though not paid up member, of the Church of the Subgenius. I found "Bob" at the bottom of a whiskey glass, and continue to do so every evening at c.22:00 hs. I believe, 'in mah haught', that Spongmonkeys are the future of the World and I also like the Moon.

Apart from books and the internet my main interest is ornithology. I am also an avid follower of Association Football aka Soccer, particularly English, and am a lifelong supporter of Manchester United and Peñarol. I have an intimate, non-technical, user's knowledge of Ankylosing Spondylitis.

My research interests are very varied, being concentrated, at present, on certain aspects of military history, particularly the Indian Rebellion/Mutiny of 1857 and the British invasions of the Rio de la Plata of 1806-07. I also find any topic related to Uruguay interesting. Although I have strong opinions on almost all topics (especially those I know little about), I believe that personal beliefs, biases and opinions should be rigorously excluded, as far as possible, from any research work.
