Japanese commercials

I tried adding an external link to his japanese commercials for boss coffee but the bot took it down. boo bot! Here is the link again, why did the bot take it down? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.79.75.250 (talk) 00:51, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Gore, Lithgow

Can someone please explain why this says that Al Gore was Tommy Lee Jones college roommate? I am new to this and do not want to change it...but something like that deserves a source. AustinPowers69: I've read several times that they were roommates, most recently in Newsweek. DerLars: The link to "The Park is mine (1986)" does not direct you to an article about movie. Instead, you are directed to something about Plup's 'The Park Is Mine' video concert. That can't be right... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.122.14.77 (talk) 21:39, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

I dont know how to add a source in Wikipedia but this article in the univercity paper The Harvard Crimson I would think migth be used

http://www.thecrimson.com/article.aspx?ref=228242 Fundinnn (talk) 03:34, 15 August 2008 (UTC

Additionally, this article states that John Lithgow lived in Dunster House, the same as Jones, while in the Wikipedia page for John Lithgow, he is stated to have lived in Adams House. Can this be accounted for?

not sure where to put this but tommy lee jones did voice acting for the movie 'small soldiers' as Chip Hazard —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.225.11.65 (talk) 14:24, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

It's already in the article. Kuru (talk) 23:50, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

Best known for

In the first paragraph of the article it says

'He is best known for his appearances as Two-Face in Batman Forever and as Agent K in the Men in Black series'

Surely his appearances in 'Lonesome Dove' or 'The Fugitive' is better known than 'Batman forever'? Fundinnn (talk) 04:39, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

It's entirely possible that even HE is trying to forget that he was in Batman Forever. Squange (talk) 04:58, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Minor vandalism maybe

A recent Stephen Colbert episode had him making a joke how he changed this Wikipedia page to reflect that Tommy has a fear of common childhood toys. As usual with this type of events, people will sometimes stop by the actual page and make the change for real. Lots42 (talk) 19:49, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Snowglobes. He said, "Tommy Lee Jones is terrified of snowglobes." That's an irresponsible edit and semi protect by Lots42 for not reflecting the actual potential vandalism. tacoelf28 (talk) 21:21, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Okay, snowglobes. As for the rest of your comment...I don't get it. Lots42 (talk) 05:29, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

Did he die?

I'm telling you he's dead. It was on CNN. —Preceding unsigned comment added by SweetPrince1989 (talkcontribs) 21:26, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Provide a reliable source please. There is nothing on CNN's website, nor does Google News mention his demise. Favonian (talk) 21:28, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Alive and well and going to a restaurant in Covent gardens August 6th 2010

Today on a radio program (station KPFT, Houston) I heard the host say he wanted Jones to run for a public office. So, he must be alive and well. Scott Tillinghast, Houston TX (talk) 04:31, 5 March 2011 (UTC)

Potential Texas Senate Run

There is a movement to nominate him as the Democratic candidate for Senator from Texas according to this and it seems like he has a decent chance of winning. Someone want to integrate this into the article?VarunRajendran (talk) 19:31, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

Unless Jones himself intends to run, I don't think it's relevant. Lots42 (talk) 01:34, 1 July 2011 (UTC)

Cherokee

I suggest to add categories" "Cherokee people" and "Native american actors".

I wonder, has his Cherokee ancestry ever been documented? All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 18:10, 13 December 2012 (UTC)

With so many people claiming Cherokee ancestry, one wonders if the Native American males or females were the most sexually active with non-Indians. The 19th century Cherokees must have had plenty of leisure time to have so many unprotected relationships. The maternity ward on the reservation must have required continuous nurses and doctors on three shifts with no weekends off.173.61.94.184 (talk) 03:27, 3 January 2013 (UTC)TommyMalthus

Nomination overload

The entry for his role in Lincoln lists 9 awards won. Of those, only 1, the SAG award, is a major one. the rest are things like the "Boston Online Critics Association". then, the entry lists 17 more nominations, again, many being ones like the "St. Louis Gateway Film Critics Assoc". Is anyone really opposed to cutting this down to the ones that reall matter, like SAG, BAFTA, Oscars and Golden Globe? Niteshift36 (talk) 19:36, 6 June 2013 (UTC)

Ancestry

Interesting as it is to discover Tommy Lee Jones has Cherokee ancestry, do any reliable sources note the remaining 87% plus ? This interview, for example, says he is “of predominantly Welsh-extraction”. Any better sources or direct quotes? Daicaregos (talk) 09:06, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

There is no evidence that Tommy Lee Jones has any Cherokee (or other) Native American ancestry. All of his grandparents and great-grandparents were listed as "White" on United States Censuses. See here for a good overview of Jones's ancestry. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 05:09, 29 May 2014 (UTC)

Tackle or guard?

This article says he played offensive tackle, yet the bio on IMDB.com says offensive guard, and also lists his height as 6'0". which might be more typical of a guard. Which position did he really play? NDM (talk) 07:58, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

The webpage for the movie "Harvard beats Yale 29-29" about the famous 'tie' game, have stills of some of the participants interviewed. The caption under Tommy Lee Jones' picture reads "Tommy Lee Jones Harvard Offensive Tackle". http://www.kino.com/harvardbeatsyale/

Thats about as definitive as I could find. One would think a documentary film would get the position rigth so I think he was a Tackle not a Guard. I guess the ones listing him as Guard dont know the difference between Tackle, Guard and Lineman and thinks all Linemen are Guards. Also guards are usually heavier than tackles. Tommy Lee Jones is tall true but he is not that heavy, so it would seem to me that he is more the Tackle 'type' Fundinnn (talk) 03:07, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

First, I've got to say it REALLY pisses me off that someone deleted my comment that multiple sources list TL Jones as playing guard, not tackle, apparently because they did not wish to be questioned. GROW UP. The WSJ did an article that listed him as guard (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122696675321435371.html). IMDB's bio page lists him as playing guard (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000169/bio). The Harvard Crimson lists him as guard (http://www.thecrimson.com/article/1968/12/9/coaches-pick-all-ivy-pharvard-placed-six/). Newsweek lists him as guard (http://www.newsweek.com/2009/01/23/when-harvard-beat-yale.html). His jersey number was 61. Most often, numbers in the 60's are guards. Fundinnn: given I played on scholarship and doubt you did, your smarmy comment about anyone not agreeing with you as not knowing the difference btwn positions is nonsense, and you need to grow up. There is obviously a lack of clarity on the issue. I have emailed both harvard and yale to get the answer. Don't act like PUNKS and delete others' comments. Kenfo 0 (talk) 23:00, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

The Harvard Crimson migth list him as a Guard, but the Yale Alumni Magazine list him as a tackle http://archives.yalealumnimagazine.com/issues/2008_11/thegame.html. Not trying to be smarmy, just trying to get to the truth. I do not know the answer, just putting forth a theory Fundinnn (talk) 00:47, 22 February 2015 (UTC)

I have been convinced! Having watched actual footage of the game, though the picture is blurry, think I saw nr 61 start at the guard position not at the tackle position as i had previously suspected. Also Harvard Athletics list him as an offinsive guard in the 'Harvard Crimson Football All-Ivy League Selections' -list http://www.gocrimson.com/sports/fball/history/Football_All-Ivy_Media_Center Fundinnn (talk) 22:44, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

Awards and Nominations section

The Awards and nominations section needs some work.

For the movie Lincoln he Tommy Lee Jones received numerous awards and nominations. These awards and nominations occured in 2012 and 2013. Which I understand. Some of the awards undoubtedly hit the circuit during the 2012 cycle of the award and others hit during the 2013 cycle. But the section divided into 5 different sections. 3 of which ocurred in 2013 and 2 of which ocurred in 2012. The single movie should be consolodated into one section crossing the two period---with the other nominations for 2012 and 2013 being separate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.166.119.94 (talk) 03:15, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
