The brothers should be divorced! - [comment added on 18 December 2006 by 85.178.97.45]

I agree with the above comment. The existing article is essentially about Ahmet Ertegun and could be modified and renamed quite easily. A much shorter article should then be created about Nesuhi Ertegun. Ghmyrtle 23:42, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. Ahmet clearly merits his own page. JavaTenor 23:37, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
NB - Most sources seem to refer to Nesuhi, with e, rather than Nasuhi. Which is correct ? Ghmyrtle 23:44, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with these comments. I actually changed the spelling to "Nesuhi" as this is the spelling used in the majority of sources as well as on the labels of Atlantic Records releases themselves. My copy of Coltrane's Giant Steps for instance credits "Original Recordings Produced by Nesuhi Ertegun." If anybody has any objection to this, let's certainly discuss.

As for the question of divorcing this into two articles, I mostly agree with that sentiment, although their is a very nice sense of their parallel history to be gained by having their stories run side by side. Of course they could be just a quick click away from each other. In the end, I think I agree that they should have seperate articles. Nor do I believe that Nesuhi deserves fewer words. His role in producing some of the most significant Jazz records of all time cannot be underestimated. [User:Jesse Reiswig|Jesse Reiswig]] 19:48, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

There is going to be a memorial sevice for Ahmet Ertegun in New York in April 2007 and an "American Masters" documentary shown on PBS in May. There really should be two articles. By way of example - two other brothers who have worked together in the entertainment industry Harvey Weinstein and Bob Weinstein have separate articles. Davidpatrick 12:11, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with splitting. I am going to remove the line "arguably the most influential record producers in the history of American Music" - there is no citation or source for this quote, which makes it Wikipedia's argument, which makes it POV. WP does't argue anything. --David Shankbone 12:58, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with the splitting of the brothers also. One had an enormous impact on the music business while the other did not. They were very different people. Sincerely, --Mattisse 15:10, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Of course. Ahmet changed the music industry forever. Neshui, a true jazz buff, was a highly influential force in the world of jazz and was a major part in Atlantic Records' success with the albums he produced. Let's not forget his founding of Warner Music International when his Warner bosses kicked him upstairs to start what was first called WEA (Warner-Elektra-Atlantic) Records to market Warner Music Group recordings outside the USA. Steelbeard1 00:21, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Both brothers are deserving of individual articles. Ahmet had greater achievements. Neshui made some significant contributions - though perhaps not of such notable impact. No need to disparage Neshui. Let's just agree to create two separate articles. Even if they aren't perfect at first - we can work on them. Davidpatrick 01:35, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Done it ! (well, someone had to ...) Likely to be many further changes needed, and apologies for any toes trodden on. Ghmyrtle 12:17, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well done! I can help with a few minor improvements on the Ahmet article. And there's probably much more that can be done. People with more jazz knowledge would need to work on Neshui article. Davidpatrick 13:06, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

The Bahasa Indonesian page and Turkish page have pictures of Ahmet Ertegün. I cannot read Bahasa Indonesian, I don't know the copyright information. Here is the link for Bahasa Indonesian. The picture on Turkish version is supposedly not appropriate for 'fair use' in English wikipedia. Maybe the same is true for Bahasa Indonesian page. Neither Altavista Babelfish, nor Google Translate translates Bahasa Indonesian.denizTC 06:15, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Categories

[edit]

Just wondering whether articles like this should be categorised (e.g. Turkish Americans, record producers, etc.) as well as the categories appearing in the individual article for each brother? Is there a Wikipedia guideline on this? Rodparkes 09:09, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion

[edit]
  • Support deletion. Until soon after Ahmet's death, the article looked like this - they did not have separate articles. Now that they do, I don't see any point in the article remaining. Ghmyrtle (talk) 16:37, 12 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You mean they both had the same surname, like generally brothers do: Ertegün. --Why should I have a User Name? (talk) 19:43, 12 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
See my reasoning for restoring the history. I've redirected the page to Atlantic Records because that seems the most logical place to find info on the most noteworthy work of the brothers as a unit. Graham87 09:25, 16 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
