I have made these changes to reflect recent scholarship, particularly by John Thornton. The earlier version was drawn from E. G. Ravenstein's book, the Strange Adventures of Andrew Battell of Leigh, which was published in 1901. While it was a pathbreaking work in its time, it has long been surpassed by the publication of many new sources and scholarly work by Saccardo (in Italian) and Thornton
