Muhammad Monirul Gani (Bengali: মুহাম্মদ মনিরুল গণি:born 7 April 1969) SUP, SGP G is a brigadier general of the Bangladesh Army. He was the inaugural managing director of Astha Life Insurance of Bangladesh Army Welfare Trust.[1][2][3]He is currently posted as chief finance officer of Bangladesh University of Professionals.[4][5]
Early life and education
[edit]Gani was born in 1969 into Bengali Muslim family of Banaripara Upazila, Barisal District (now in Barisal Division). He is the eldest of five children of Osman Gani Shikdar former headmaster of Barisal Polytechnic Institute and Selina Begum.[6] He is the nephew of late Golam Sarwar and late Maj. Gen Md. Rafiqul Islam.[7][8] He studied primary level initially at Barisal Zilla School and then Jashore Zilla School, later he admitted to Barisal Cadet College in the year 1982. He has completed Secondary and Higher Secondary Examinations from Barisal Cadet College, BSc (Physics) from Chittagong University, MSc in Applied Gunnery.
Military career
[edit]Gani was commissioned in the corps of artillery on June 1991 with the 24th BMA long course. His parent unit is 12th Field Artillery Regiment. As major, he served in an artillery brigade at Savar as General Staff Officer Grade-2 (GSO-2), and then as Deputy adjutant quarter-master general (DQ). He commanded battery of two field artillery regiments in Jessore and Kholahati. Gani joined DGFI in 2003. He was the military secretary to Sadik Hasan Rumi, Golam Mohammad and Molla Fazle Akbar from 2004 to 2009 making him one of the longest military secretary to Director General of Forces Intelligence. He was promoted to lieutenant colonel in 2009 and served as adjutant and quarter master general (AQ) at ARTDOC headquarters, Mymensingh Cantonment.[9] He also commanded one self-propelled artillery regiment in Bogra and one field artillery regiment in Savar. On 22 February 2016, Gani was promoted to colonel and posted as deputy director generals of first business division at Sena Kalyan Sangstha.[10] He was then promoted to brigadier general and worked with Sena Kalyan Sangstha until 15 July 2019 after which he served as the inaugural managing director for Astha life insurance, a directorate under Army Welfare trust.[11][12][13] On 12 August 2021, brigadier Gani was transferred to Station headquarters of Bogra Cantonment. He joined Bangladesh University of Professionals on 19 December 2022. [14]
UN Mission
[edit]Gani served UN mission twice. First with the second sector of Bangladesh sector in Georgia 2001-02, UNOMIG (United Nations Mission in Georgia) where he inducted and commanded a BANBAT force. Second at with BANBAT-11 in MONUSCO Sector 6 at Democratic Republic of the Congo on 2012. He was also part of observant group of African Union Mission in Sudan in 2010.
Personal life
[edit]Gani is happily married to Ayreen Haque and has a son and a daughter. He is a keen golfer and frequent traveller.
