Lorenia Canavati von Borstel (b. 1971, in San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo León)[1] is a Mexican businesswoman, human rights activist,[2] and mayoral candidate in San Pedro for the Citizens Movement party[3] in the 2024 elections. She is president of the Festival Saint Lucia (held in Monterrey), where she has worked until 2023. She announced her retirement from this position at the closure of the festival in order to run for mayor.[4]

Biography

Lorenia Canavati von Borstel was born in 1971. Her family created a restaurant group named Grupo Joker, which specializes in hamburgers. In 2012, Canavati became head of the group.[5] In 2017, she began to work as the organizer for the Festival Saint Lucia, being named the president of the board in 2021. She announced her departure from this role in 2023, when she announced her candidacy for mayor.

Political Career

In 2015, she was the first of many independent candidates in the San Pedro municipality. When she lost the mayoral race to Mauricio Fernandez, she took a spot on the staff of Jamie Rodriguez and the social growth cabinet.[6] She left her position at the center for social work in 2017 to run for mayor in San Pedro once again.[4] In 2024, she once again entered her name to run for mayor as a part of the Citizens Movement party.[7]
