Excludes ethnic Turks?

[edit]

Is this category intended to be inclusive of ethnically Turkic peoples prior to the establishment of the modern Turkish Republic? For example, Ottomans of Turkic decent? If so, the description on the category page should be modified to reflect this scope.Mavigogun (talk) 04:26, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Judging by the sentence The main article for this category is Turkish people., this category is related with Ethnic Turkish people and mainly Ethnic Turkish people from the modern Republic of Turkey and Ethnic Turkish emigrants form the modern Republic of Turkey. For "Ottomans of Turkic decent" (in Ottoman era), we can use Category:Ottoman Turks. As long as I understand, we need such as Category:People from Turkey, Category:Citizens of Turkey. What is the difference between this category and Category:Turkic peoples? -- أحمد مصطفى السيد (talk) 07:48, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Turkic peoples is more conprihensive. It includes all of the Turkic peoples (Category:Turkic peoples).

For example Turkish people (Category:Ethnic Turkish people), Azerbaijani people (Category:Ethnic Azerbaijani people), Uzbekistani people (Category:Ethnic Uzbek people), Turkmen people (Category:Ethnic Turkmen people), Kyrgyz people (Category:Ethnic Kyrgyz people) Uyghur people (Category:Uyghurs), Kazakhs (Category:Ethnic Kazakh people), Tatars (Category:Tatar people) etc. But now there are contradictions between categories and articles. You can't have your cake and eat it too

Apparently you can.[1] For future reference, I strongly oppose this decision [2] particularly on categories. Balyozxane (talk) 23:48, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
