[edit]As of the 2022[update] American Community Survey estimates, there were 2,141 people and 1,139 households.[1][2] The population density was 1,319.2 inhabitants per square mile (509.3/km2). There were 1,435 housing units at an average density of 1.5 per square mile (0.6/km2).[1][3][4] The racial makeup of the city was 72.1% White, 0.5% some other race, and 0.1% Asian, with 27.3% from two or more races.[1] Hispanics or Latinos of any race were 51.8% of the population.[1]
Of the 1,139 households, 9.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.7% had seniors 65 years or older living with them, 31.4% were married couples living together, 9.1% were couples cohabitating, 10.9% had a male householder with no partner present, and 48.6% had a female householder with no partner present.[2] The median household size was 1.88 and the median family size was 3.57.[2]
The age distribution was 18.4% under 18, 0.5% from 18 to 24, 14.4% from 25 to 44, 30.4% from 45 to 64, and 36.4% who were 65 or older. The median age was 55.3 years.[5]
The median income for a household was $30,669, with family households having a median income of $86,250 and non-family households $28,324. The per capita income was $36,682.[6][7] Out of the 2,136 population with a determined poverty status, 24.9% were below the poverty line. Further, 59.5% of minors and 12.4% of seniors were below the poverty line.[8]
In the survey, residents self-identified with various ethnic ancestries. People of Italian descent make up 16.7% of the population of the town, followed by English at 14.9%, Polish at 14.7%, German at 6.9%, Irish at 4.5%, French at 4.4%, Dutch at 2.8%, Czech at 2.6%, Lithuanian at 2.6%, Swiss at 1.8%, American at 1.0%, and French Canadian at 1.0%.[2]
