This Wikipedia page divides people from Somalia into those from Somalia and those from Somaliland. There’s no recognized country called Somaliland. Not only that but the semi-autonomous secessionist government that calls itself “Somaliland” does not control former British Somaliland territories. As of August 2023, SSC-Khatumo which controls the region between Puntland and “Somaliland” is became a recognized state within Somalia. It’s irresponsible reporting to define Somaliland as a separate entity from Somalia when: 1) Somaliland is not a recognized nation and by international law is part of Somalia 2) What’s designated as “Somaliland” isn’t fully under the control of the separatist Somaliland government

As someone from Northwest Somalia (Waqooyi Galbeed), I hope this can fixed because we see ourselves as part of Somalia not a separate country. 2603:8000:8E40:165D:1438:740C:4CF3:5759 (talk) 18:08, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Jonathan Deamer (talk) 19:33, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Banadiri is not a somali and there is no such a thing as a northern dialect it is af-maxa (do not write about someone else's history if you do not know a thing and that is a given) 176.42.132.202 (talk) 19:48, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Somalis of Oromo origin?

[edit]

There's a theory that Somalis are actually semitized Oromo. See p.99 [1] "Another theory is that the Somalis are actually Semiticized Oromos, the descendants of the Oromo tribes which inhabited portions of what is now the Northern Region of the Somali Republic and which were subject to influences emanating from Arabia, both through a certain degree of intermarriage and through the adoption of Islam". Unsure how widely taken up this theory is, perhaps editors can take a look. Magherbin (talk) 16:31, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

DNA, specifically autosomal DNA disproves this fringe theory.[2] The overwhelming proportions of the Ethio-Somali component found within Somalis debunks those claims. Oromos carry Omotic admixtures and more “Arab” DNA than Somalis do. Oromo are not as pure as Somalis are genetically. Check the colors yourself.[3]
