After many suspected patients fled from isolation wards of hospitals, the state government directed officers at hospitals and airports to stamp the left hand of people placed under a 14-day home quarantine with details of their quarantine period using [[Election ink|indelible ink]], so as to easily identify them. On March 18, the Federation of Trade Association of Pune announced that all shops, excepting grocery stores and pharmacies, will be closed in the city. On March 20, the Thackeray announced that all workplaces, excluding essential services and public transport, in the [[Mumbai Metropolitan Region]], Pune (PMC & PCMC) and Nagpur would be closed until March 31. On March 22, Thackeray declared that [[Section 144]] of the Constitution of India would be imposed across the state, taking effect from March 23. On March 26, the [[Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation]] started marking markings one metre away from each other outside grocery stores and fruit and vegetable shops in the city of Mumbai, in order to maintain social distancing. On April 11, the lockdown was further extended to May 4 across India. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray stated, "[The] lockdown will remain till at least 30 April. On May 1, the [[Ministry of Home Affairs (India)|Ministry of Home Affairs]] announced that the lockdown would be extended again, for two weeks from the previous end date of May 3, until May 17. ===Containment measures===
Several places in the state where multiple confirmed cases were reported were sealed off to prevent community transmission. As a part of the containment measures, the [[Pune Municipal Corporation]] is providing regular updates for citizens, hospital statuses, travel advisories, and awareness and training material on its official website. In addition, updates about the case count in each [[Ward (electoral subdivision)|ward]] of the city are posted to Twitter. The [[Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation|Pimpri Chinchward Municipal Corporation]] also issued a pocket-book and prevention and management measures on its website.
