Adjustable censorship

Hey. You mentioned unreliable resources. Re:1989 unprotection

Unfortunately, you cannot protect an article for an extended period of time, unless it's a high-traffic article such as George W. Bush, RuneScape, etc. Usually, admins protect pages per requests at WP:RFPP, and I believe that's how I first heard about the page. I saw that their was a high level of vandalism, and I hoped protecting the page temporarily would discourage vandals from coming back and editing the page. However, there are some good IP and newly registered users, who lose out when pages are protected. They cannot add their contributions to the page, and this is one of the reasons why pages cannot be protected for long periods of time. We want to stop vandalism, but we also want to keep the page open for everyone to edit. I mean, that's the point of Wikipedia, right? Hope that answers your question, Bkissin. I suggest you first try talking to him. From a superficial glance at his edits, I really can't see anything too bad, and I think he's just testing it out. Arrested Development

No need to apologize, I know edit summaries often seem brisk. The reason I removed it was simply that one of the main goals in maintaining the quality and readability of the article is avoiding endless lists of examples, and a show like Arrested Development does warrant lots of examples, which can become problematic. So I didn't remove the example because it isn't accurate (since it is), but simply because there are already pleanty of examples of political topicality. I'm unsure of what the license would be, truthfully enough. I didn't create the blank map, but the highlighting of the riding in question was my doing. Does it count as my work? I took the map from a previous election page, and just blanked it out. Could you help me figure out this situation?

It really depends on the copyright of the original image and whether the work you did is regarded as enough to be though of as a new artistic work or if it is still considered to be a derivative work. I understand your take on the Leaders infobox, but I'm not sure it's factual to exclude PANB since they are (as of today), officially recognized as a party by Elections NB (http://www.cbc.ca/canada/new-brunswick/story/2010/06/09/nb-panb-official-party-status-221.html). If we start to pick and choose which facts to put up, aren't we distorting the truth? In my view, it's not for us to decide whether or not they deserve it; you are either a registered party or you aren't. In this case, they are. You used the example of the Alberta election, but that page has the Wild Rose party in the leaders infobox, and they have never won a seat. Thanks for replying. I absolutely see where you are coming from. I think I see the gap between you and I now. You are using Wikipedia conventions of which I'm not aware (because I'm a newbie editor), while I'm just relying on what I consider to be the facts. I'm okay with leaving them out if that's how things are done around here, but I'm not sure it does reflect the facts. Even though PANB is a new party, they are officially registered in NB unlike the Animal Alliance Party or the Canadian Action Party.

By the way, I did a mini-Twitter survey on this question last night on the #nbvotes hashtag. It didn't get a big response, but two people (one NDP and one Tory) thought they should be added. I'm okay with leaving them out if that's the Wikipedia way to do it, but I don't think we have heard the last of this question. I plan to add the PANB candidate names in the "Other" column on the page. I'm sure you wouldn't have a concern with that.

Reply to your message

Please take a look at this revision of the article, and scroll down to the Historical Service section. You'll see that there were two identical copies of the list. All I did was remove one of them. The original list is still there, untouched. Another user copied it and pasted it, creating two lists, without giving an explanation. David Karwacki excluded from 2007 election infobox

If the leader of a party with no seats in the Legislature got to participate in the one-and-only 2007 Election TV debate, I think he should be in the infobox. Nova Scotia Parliamentary Expenses Scandal

Hi there, I just wanted to let you know the reason I edited the information you added to Nova Scotia Parliamentary Expenses Scandal in this edit[2]. I read the reference article you used to source the claim that Hurlburt had pleaded guilty, and found that this wasn't exactly the case. His lawyer appeared in court and stated his client will plead guilty when he appears in court on April 12. Therefore a guilty plea hasn't been entered, so the article shouldn't be stating that he has already pleaded guilty. I figured you probably only misread the article, but we're dealing with WP:BLP which is why I wanted to explain to you here why I corrected the info before you seen it changed in the article.

Parties in infobox

Consensus was not reached. YOU determined that 5% was a proper threshold. This has become a very divisive issue, with both sides implicitly accusing the other of trying to manipulate the electoral results. On the Ontario talk page, there was no administrator or uninvolved editor who made a final decision on the matter. I am not interested in reopening this debate, but I will revert recent edits and bring this back to the talk page if necessary. While this was an issue during the election itself, when Green Party (and other minor party supporters) want their party advertised in the leader's infobox, as soon as the election occurs and the party does not win any seats, then it seems logical that they are not mentioned in the infobox. An infobox is for summarizing the article. When a party receives more than five percent of the vote, or in the case of New Brunswick 2010 over ten percent, they played a significant part in the election, and should be mentioned. OK, if the logic is that the infobox summarizes the article, then no one needs to know that minor parties played a part (at least in the infobox). If you want to argue that minor parties, (like the NDP, which had no representation in the previous legislature) played an important role in the election but didn't win seats, then that can be mentioned in the article itself. In the United States House of Representatives elections, 1912, the Progressive Party won 9 seats and 2% of the vote, but are not mentioned in the infobox. Next Nova Scotia general election

Hi Bkissin, I have cleaned up a significant amount in the nominated candidates section as you asked for in template. The new ridings are now included, I fixed the party order and added a number of candidates. One problem I ran into is Elections Nova Scotia lists a new riding as "Halifax Armdale" but because it was not already listed somewheres, I have no idea which of the Halifax sections it's supposed to be listed in. Also, the new "Sackville" riding, I wasn't sure what to link as there was previously a Sackville riding up to 1993. I was hoping you could check these problems out, as I think I have probably taken the section as far as I can for now. I totally get your reasoning, and I really wouldn't be shocked if there does end up being a by-election in Ottawa-Vanier. I just think that at this point it might be a bit premature, given all the other things that could happen; for instance, his health could theoretically remain well enough (relatively speaking) where he's still serving as an MP by the time the next election is held (whether it be in 2019 or theoretically earlier if a snap election is held).

I'm the author, and I'm not yet requesting a re-review. I do intend to revise further. Robert B. Barr is notable in two ways as a Rabbi: his congregation has been controversial with the official Reform Judaism movement in that it takes a humanistic perspective. I can document that significance. Barr has challenged conventional thought within American Judaism. He is also credited with being one of the first online congregations - again, documentable. He is well-published and a regular lecturer on notable topics. Finally, his candidacy itself is notable and well-cited in the draft article. There have only been two rabbis who have ever run for Congress, and neither we active pulpit rabbis with actual congregations. Were he to win, Barr would be the first rabbi to serve in the US House. The very notability of these items can sound promotional, but these are established facts which are notable. Can you highlight particular phrases that either need rewording or need a citation? That would help.

Thanks for reaching out, and I definitely get where you are coming from. If you can find information from the Forward or from Tablet or from non-religious publications about Barr's controversial stances, those might count as reliable sources. In terms of sounding less promotional, take a look at Jimmy Kessler, Raphael Evers, and Barbara Borts for ideas on how to make the article sound more encyclopedic. The article's focus should be on his current position as a Rabbi, with a section that can go into a small amount of factual detail on his congressional aspirations. Hi. I am confused by the refusal. LO3 Energy has been reported by numerous major media sources and the references in the article include in-depth reports from the New York Times, the Guardian, New Scientist and Fox Business. If required, I can also add in reports from Wired, the Daily Telegraph and Scientific American and many others.

The Brooklyn Microgrid, which enabled the first peer-to-peer transaction of energy, is a key marker in the development of new transactive energy network developments which are of great interest to popular science. Having this information on Wikipedia - and I plan to also write an informative article on the Brooklyn Microgrid - is of benefit to the public realm.

I am happy to work on content to ensure it reads impartially if you feel it doesn't, but I do strongly dispute the claim that the references do not show the company's notability.

Please could you give a response as I would like to progress this page quickly. Hi, Can you provide specifics of what is not acceptable? It says "should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed." I've provided 14 different sources including newspapers and government pages. I've not included the organization's website, press releases, social media etc. The last citation is an online blog so in re-reading the guidelines, that one probably doesn't carry weight. I didn't include any op-eds, opinion pieces, letters to the editor etc. It would be helpful to know which sections and which citations don't meet the standards. Thanks. It doesn't seem like you read my reasoning at all! The page itself is written like an informal advertisement or article about the organization, and not an encyclopedia entry about the organization. Wikipedia is not a business or nonprofit directory. Wikipedia articles need to have a Neutral point of view on the topic. This article for a Canadian version of Furniture Bank in Toronto is not perfect, but it is perhaps a starting point on proper writing and notability. That first guy simply said 'you have not shown that this model is particularly famous or significant.' and 'All you've done is cite the manual'.

Why do I have to show that the model is particularly famous or significant? There's no rule that says Wikipedia may only contain articles about famous or significant things. That keyboard may not be very famous, it's a really old 80s keyboard... But I researched about it, watched several videos, read the entire manual and collected all information I could find in the internet and combined them into one article, so it can be improved by other people later on with new information, that aren't yet available. I'm a 90s kid, I can't know how famous that keyboard was back then in the 80s. It was only covered in some very old music magazine and I cited that one in the latest revision. However, I know that there are other pages on Wikipedia about other keyboards by Yamaha with equivalent information and they didn't get rejected.

I don't only cite from the manual anymore and am referring to other sources, too. There's just not much more that I can include. If you disagree, please try yourself to find more information (which is hardly possible) and help me improving it. But please don't reject it without any tips on how to improve it.

Hi Reditec! I'm sorry if you are upset about your article being rejected. Let me try to go into a little more detail.
There's no rule that says Wikipedia may only contain articles about famous or significant things. Actually, that is indeed a rule. Wikipedia:Notability discusses at length what counts as significant enough for a wikipedia article. One of the general notability guidelines is If a topic has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, it is presumed to be suitable for a stand-alone article or list. In the case of the manual you cited, that would not be independent of the subject. As for the additional coverage you cited, I don't know if that would apply as significant coverage in a reliable source.
Of all the products that Yamaha makes, why does this deserve an article? We don't make articles for every model year of a car (unless a particular model year has significant coverage that would warrant its own article. But even with the Ford Pinto and the Chevrolet Corvair, the issues with each of these vehicles is mentioned in an article about the car itself). We don't make individual articles about each baseball bat made by Louisville Slugger.
I noticed in looking at the List of Yamaha products that there are some keyboards that have their own articles, and most of them are poorly put together and have not been "improved" by other editors. This however is not a justification that because other stuff exists, that means that every electric keyboard should have its own article. There are a lot of things that don't end up on Wikipedia because it's just not what Wikipedia is for. Those are my particular reasonings behind rejecting the article. Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario leadership election, 2018

I understand why you put that photo in, but in reality it appears that one of Allen's supporters copied a copyrighted photo from ipolitics.ca and uploaded it to Flickr, changing the license. I have deleted it again, we'd need an OTRS from that website to allow it. There is a very small chance that the ipolitics.ca photographer has allowed Allen's campaign to use it, but we have no proof of that. Unfortunately this happens all the time in election campaigns! I wrote this article and created this page as many employees of this parent company or those willing to join have been seen talking on social media about the chaotic online presence of its subsidiary companies which creates confusion especially during hiring process. Some of them got cheated by middleman for bribery to get through the recruitment process. Thus, just to put records straight, I created this page so that they get to know real thing from a credible source like wikipedia and are not confused. I collected this information from independent sources and wrote an article.

If we as editors at wikipedia are not to help people about getting correct information. What are we for. I write blogs. Some of the people who were cheated requested me to write a blog about the company. I then thought, my blog may not reach much people. Therefore, I wrote it on wikipedia so that it reaches maximum people and they are saved from any unnecessary frauds.

Rest is your wish whether to publish or not. I tried doing my bit. Now its reviewer's turn.

For me, ultimate objective of wikipedia is to spread correct information, also about individuals, events or companies who are not as much famous and not just publishing what is already there in public domain.

We can save hundreds of people from getting cheated and losing their hard earned money to the middleman if they get the right information from a credible source. Let see how far we achieve this objective.

Hello Bkissin, thank you considering my page submission. I included citations from the founder's publication, largely regarding the early history, as there hasn't been much written yet because it's privately held. The other references include Washington Post and Huffington Post. I believe that the company is notable given its reach, especially considering the recent political coverage. There's previous litigation which I can add in, which would improve consideration of the notability. There's a lot of activity about the company on blog platforms, however I understand these sources aren't verifiable. The MLM category [[3]] shows many other direct distribution companies and I consider SeneGence to be a worthy addition to the list given their long establishment. Hello amason1930 (talk · contribs). The reason I declined the draft the first time was because Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a directory for CoD Black Ops 2. Video game characters are largely not considered notable for Wikipedia. Exceptions like Mario and Sonic are notable because they have been written about in reliable media sources. If you want to add information about Captain Alex Mason, that may be better suited for the Call of Duty Wiki instead of Wikipedia. I hope this helps. Only ConnectedText has no references listed. I wasn't responsible for accepting those articles, but I will look into whether those need to be deleted as well. Just because other stuff exists does not mean that everything deserves an article. On top of WebNote having no references to reliable sources, the article is written in an informal style that borders on the promotional, which would also be a reason to decline the draft. I've moved the article you approved, The University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center, back to draft space for the following reasons:

  • The only citations are self-sources and it cites wikipedia itself.
  • Most of the information in the article doesn't have any sources.
  • There is a talk page template on the article page.
  • It is an orphan, and the only out-link is to the state of New Mexico.
  • The title should not begin with "The".

I compared the reference links used by all these pages and it seems to me that those used in the Videoslots entry are of similar or superior quality. In fact, several of the sources, namely Maltese newspapers and licensing authorities, are identical.

Hello Kobold Stout (talk · contribs). So, I see several reasons here why it would be declined. First, the sources: for Wikipedia articles, a topic has to have media coverage from reliable sources that are INDEPENDENT of the subject. Citing the developer would not be independent of the subject matter, and citing a Wikia about the page would not be a reliable source because anyone can come in and make outlandish changes. Second, the topic: I don't know whether this meets notability guidelines under Wikipedia:Notability (video games), but if the game is not fully released yet, it would certainly fit under the rule that Wikipedia is not a Crystal Ball, and shouldn't be used as a forum for product announcements. Third, the style: The way the article is written right now, especially the Story section, come off very self-promotional, not exactly the tone of an online encyclopedia. I was asked to help with the above draft by KJP1 as a member of the NZ project. My fellow Kiwi who wrote the draft seemed a bit discouraged. I am new to Wikipedia but tried to do my best to answer your queries by providing more references and attempting to highlight notability. NZ is a small country so for a young author (under 40) to have published 5 novels would be considered "notable" - but in the "promising" rather than the "arrived" area. I hope that my editing helps highlight this view in an appropriate manner. I also think that a novelist in NZ, born in Sri Lanka is also notable (though it might not seem like this from an outsider view). I can understand that this may not be enough to be included in Wikipedia, but wanted to give it a go at the request of KJP1 Thank you for your comments.

Hello Yrarendar (talk · contribs)! I'm sorry you feel that way. I was going by the guidelines that Wikipedia sets out for creative professionals like authors. I have copied and pasted the guidelines here:


Authors, editors, journalists, filmmakers, photographers, artists, architects, and other creative professionals:

  1. The person is regarded as an important figure or is widely cited by peers or successors.
  2. The person is known for originating a significant new concept, theory, or technique.
  3. The person has created or played a major role in co-creating a significant or well-known work or collective body of work. In addition, such work must have been the primary subject of an independent and notable work (for example, a book, film, or television series, but usually not a single episode of a television series) or of multiple independent periodical articles or reviews.
  4. The person's work (or works) either (a) has become a significant monument, (b) has been a substantial part of a significant exhibition, (c) has won significant critical attention, or (d) is represented within the permanent collections of several notable galleries or museums.


While both of the facts you bring up are interesting tidbits, they aren't enough to establish notability for Wikipedia.
To give you a small sense of hope here, one of the few things that may work in Brannavan Gnanalingam's favour is the fact that his books have been short-listed for national book awards in NZ. I personally don't know the guidelines around whether simply being nominated for a national book award is enough to be notable, and so my comment on the article was meant to start a conversation among the reviewers as to whether this was enough.
You are more than welcome to do some work on the draft and try to resubmit, but it took 8 weeks for a reviewer to eventually decline the submission so I don't know if things will be different this time around. Bkissin (talk) 15:24, 7 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your comments. I don't necessarily disagree with your assessment. I would not have initiated the entry myself, but I have worked on the entry in order to help out. I have added more material to flesh out the entry; however I am still not certain that this novelist meets the criteria - though his work has been reviewed in all the likely and respected NZ outlets, but not internationally. Do you advise leaving it as is and waiting for the originating author to make the next step. The original author has not changed anything. As I am new to Wikipedia, I didn't know what the next step would be.

Coming from the US, I don't know which local NZ websites count as reliable sources. Look at the guidelines in that link and see if the sites in Brannavan's article fit those guidelines. A bit unclear how this album article is not sufficient for being accepted when the first album was (Time Within Itself). This Origin Suite is written up internationally and has been getting airplay world wide, as much as Time Within Itself. Obviously there is something you see lacking that the other article and CD contained; made it acceptable.

The article itself needs a major cleanup, but once that is done, you are right, it may be acceptable for the mainspace. By all means, once that is done, re-submit the article. While Wikipedia does find most articles about geographic features as notable, a 1-2 sentence about a road (especially without proof that the road in question is notable) would not pass such a test. You rejected my proposed article on Fry, Arizona and I am looking for clarification.

I am unclear why you rejected my proposed article. I was trying to correct errors in the county (cochise, az) and city pages, but without the context of a separate article explaining about the populated place of FRY, az (it also a census designated place) the history of both Cochise county and Sierra Vista are severely distorted, as Fry still exists alongside and partially surrounded on two sides by sierra vista and the Ft. Huachuca military base. Fry is still active. I provided four times the sources most the the other CDP's and Populated places (even the ghost towns) listed as being in the county, which need to be corrected to include the area. All of my sources are available from the university of Arizona, Smithsonian, and Arizona historical society. I tried to get the listing corrected for Cochise county corrected but had my changes reversed. Wikipedia is literally and effectively leaving out a real currently existing place recognized by the federal government, and national register of historic places (for two buildings one of which I mentioned in my proposed article).

So I again ask, as I have provided more sources than all these other places that are 1/4 the size in the county and have pages at Wikipedia....what are you objecting to and are wanting more detail? When I have traced links listed in other articles perhaps 50% at best are real and mt sources are either academic or in one case a collection of selected newspaper articles (the reporters own articles- when the paper was bought out twice between 1980's and 2000 one or both of the new owners did not keep it so this collection is all that exists. So I repeat, what detail needs more? That really makes no logical sense to me in this context.

Ambre P, please try to look over Wikipedia:Etiquette next time you have a dispute with another editor. I don't need to be spoken to that way. That being said, it was a very difficult decision to decline that draft. You are absolutely correct that most articles about geographic locations pass notability requirements, especially if they are CDPs. However, the draft that I saw was not effectively formatted (one long unmanageable chunk of text rather than being spread out or wikified, it also included trivial information (I fail to see how having a drive-in theatre that received an advance copy of the first Star Wars is notable enough for an encyclopedia article.) There was the worry that the article may have had some copyright violations from copying and pasting information (see here) but I think you largely avoided that because you cited the source in the article and put quotes around direct information.

If you want to see how other CDP articles are put together, look at Damascus, Maryland, Layhill, Maryland, and/or Leisure World, Maryland as examples.

I was not trying to argue with you, I just really do not see a difference and am confused. I know I think a bit different, and I found out in college how differently. I now do not understand now why you are upset. I have read everything and am frustrated with what I must be doing wrong and not seeing, to the wikipedia editorial POV. I have looked at other articles, and to me, what I wrote looked good and similar if not better because of all of the sources I was using. I looked at your link to the AI copyright checker, and other than the direct quotes I did not cut and paste anything. I know I have a bit of a boring writing style, but that is funny, but only if you know I wrote it all from scratch. The blog your copyright checker is using is one I have given info to/posted at, I actually used actual and physical source material as opposed to quotes and stories posted by other users, and had used it as an additional source but was told to remove it. If fact that blog has several sections that are direct cut and pastes from a local real-estate office page that its-self is line for line, word for word copied from one of the books I was quoting.[reply]

It really is an oversight I was trying to fix. I do historical reenacting and the oversight bothered me. As for putting it in with sierra vista page, to someone like me who has lived in the area and knows the history, its confusing to me and others in local area I have spoken too. I am trying to be complete, but fry is not sierra vista like well any two settled places that touch each-other. You should see a local map where they overlap and almost commingled on the street by street level, but have separate governments, are listed separately in the phone listings, mail addresses, etc... Sierra Vista proper is the largest settled area/town/city in the county and Fr y is a separate CDP mostly but not entirely within sierra vista [1] . People living in fry can not get city services, as they are not residents of Sierra vista, they use county services like rural fire, and 911 calls the county sheriff not sierra city police. Its an oddhte situation, but as it is seperate, distinct, and older than sierra vista and bigger than any other CDP listed in county, I cannot understand why it is not listed. Most of the other CDP's are less than 300 people and Fry is estimated at between 800 to 1000 people.

If this is not what you are saying is wrong, I apologize, but that is what I am thinking you are saying. Not trying to argue, I'm just not good at explaining, and not understanding at all the problem you are saying. This is why I try to stick to art and CGI graphics editing and not writing. I was trying to fix something I saw as small and easy to fix problem.

The Star wars thing is important to me and people I interact with, but most are science fiction fans and computer/technical people. To me its more interesting than any of the 'notable' people who live in sierra vista.

If there is somewhere else or something else I should ask this or do please tell me.

Ambre P, I definitely understand you are frustrated after putting so much time and effort into your work. It can be upsetting when someone declines a draft you worked hard on, I get it. It has happened to me many times. You did fine on the copyright issue. It was coming up as worrisome by that tool because of the direct quotes that you pulled, but you cited those quotes so there is no problem.
Again, you are right that there is important information here, it just needs to be formatted better. That's why I suggested looking at the CDPs that I mentioned in my last comment. That may give you an idea on what other writers have done to make their articles good. While the information in the last three paragraphs is interesting, I still don't think it's the kind of information you would find in an encyclopedia.

Hello SimoC. It was a difficult decision to decline Draft:Luis Falcon because you did a good job on the article. I was working with the guidelines that Wikipedia has on the notability of professors and academics. Those guidelines are:
1. The person's research has had a significant impact in their scholarly discipline, broadly construed, as demonstrated by independent reliable sources.
2. The person has received a highly prestigious academic award or honor at a national or international level.
3. The person is or has been an elected member of a highly selective and prestigious scholarly society or association (e.g., a National Academy of Sciences or the Royal Society) or a fellow of a major scholarly society which reserves fellow status as a highly selective honor (e.g., Fellow of the IEEE).[2]
4. The person's academic work has made a significant impact in the area of higher education, affecting a substantial number of academic institutions.
5. The person holds or has held a named chair appointment or distinguished professor appointment at a major institution of higher education and research (or an equivalent position in countries where named chairs are uncommon).
6. The person has held a highest-level elected or appointed administrative post at a major academic institution or major academic society.

In looking over the article again, there may be a case for #7 on the list, though it also looks like Falcon is not a professor or academic. WP:ANYBIO says:
The person has received a well-known and significant award or honor, or has been nominated for such an award several times.
The person has made a widely recognized contribution that is part of the enduring historical record in his or her specific field.[8]
The person has an entry in the Dictionary of National Biography or similar publication.
However, the activism section comes off a little too promotional in its tone. I would absolutely fix that if I were you. Just as a note, it's probably not the best of ideas to link to the copyvios tool in draft comments, as was done here - it encourages the submitter to simply reword the document until they reach an "acceptable" level of heavy paraphrasing to trick the bot and get it to slide past reviewers. Timeform is to the entire horse racing industry what Wisden is the the cricketing world. They are NOW owned by a bookmaker, but bookmaking is still not what they are about. Reg Griffin was a leading figure in the horse racing industry because he ran Timeform for so long and contributed enormously to the racing world.

Hello wikiwrangler! I'm sorry you feel as if the article was unfairly declined. I don't have a background in British horseracing, and so in looking up Timeform, it led me to the article describing its gambling activities. That being said, I went with Wikipedia:WikiProject Horse racing/Notability to develop my decision. If you can reword the article to fit some of those requirements, go ahead. More context in the lead would be important as to what he actually did. Was he a jockey? Was he a horse owner? A data analytics guy for Timeform before becoming Chairman? If so, was he notable enough to meet the standards put together by Wikipedia? What I see right now is a guy who ran Timeform for many years. Okay, thank you for that, I'll have a go. But Timeform doesn't have any gambling activities. They send people round to watch horses in races and in training. They time them over set distances (The "time" part of the name) and log their performance on the racecourse (the "form" part of the name). But I'm not responsible for the Timeform entry on wikipedia, so if it gives a misleading impression, that is unfortunate. Griffin started off going out watching horses and writing reports, then he was in charge of other people doing that. They published a yearbook with data on every racehorse in Britain. It was the industry reference book and Griffin became very influential. He rode as an amateur in his early career, and an owner and breeder in his later career. He did more besides. Hello Domingokiro! The article provides some good information about the event, good job! However, there are some sections of the article that sound overly promotional and don't give off the neutral point of view that Wikipedia is known for. For example, a lot of the quotes from Mayor Medina or the head of A+E Philippines are very complimentary about the event. It may have been a great event, but that's not a fact that can be proven. There are some good photos here that would be great to use when you merge some of that information into the Balut article. However, I would only choose 1 or 2 of the best pictures (in your opinion) that show Balut.
Here's how I might re-write it to add into the existing article:
In 2015, the city of Pateros, Philippines set the world record for the most people simultaneously eating Balut. The city, which is known for its Balut production, partnered with the Center for Culinary Arts (CCA, Manila) and the History (U.S. TV network), to set the record.[1] [2]

Chefs from the Center for Culinary Arts, led by by Chef Tristan Encarnacion prepared 1,000 pieces of balut into an adobo dish that was recorded to have weighed 117.5 kilograms.[3] In addition to setting the world record for most people simultaneously eating balut, the event organizers collected over 120 different recipes that include balut, hoping to change possible negative perceptions of the food.

I think what stuck out to me about as promotional were the sentences "Doug Cook has helped the company grow to over 200 employees since then. The company's spokesperson, Installer Dave, is featured in many of their commercials which have become a staple in Chicago TV."

That being said, I think the larger reason why this page keeps getting deleted is that it doesn't seem to fit Wikipedia's notability guidelines on companies. A small windows and doors franchise, no matter how many local commercials and charity drives it does, is not inherently notable enough for an article, and Wikipedia's purpose is not to be a business directory. Hello Hamilton Tushy (talk · contribs). One of the biggest hurdles that new editors face when they want to create an article on Wikipedia is the topic of Notability. Because Wikipedia likes to think of itself as a important encyclopedia, not every topic or every person needs an article. There are certain guidelines that have to be met to be considered for a Wikipedia article. Take Yung Kevyns for instance. There are so many bands and musical artists out there that want to have Wikipedia articles to help promote them that if Wikipedia accepted them all, we wouldn't have enough space for articles on important topics. That's why the users of Wikipedia have developed these guidelines to determine if a Musician or artist is notable enough for the encyclopedia.


According to Wikipedia:Notability (music):
Musicians or ensembles (this category includes bands, singers, rappers, orchestras, DJs, musical theatre groups, instrumentalists, etc.) may be notable if they meet at least one of the following criteria.
  • Has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial, published works appearing in sources that are reliable, not self-published, and are independent of the musician or ensemble itself.
This criterion includes published works in all forms, such as newspaper articles, books, magazine articles, online versions of print media, and television documentaries[note 2] except for the following:
Any reprints of press releases, other publications where the musician or ensemble talks about themselves, and all advertising that mentions the musician or ensemble, including manufacturers' advertising.[note 3]
Works consisting merely of trivial coverage, such as articles that simply report performance dates, release information or track listings, or the publications of contact and booking details in directories.
Articles in a school or university newspaper (or similar), in most cases.
  • Has had a single or album on any country's national music chart.
  • Has had a record certified gold or higher in at least one country.

Hello Huursa. Personally, I don't think either article is notable enough for Wikipedia. If it were up to me, the Bloodbath of B-R5RB would be deleted as well. Just because other stuff exists does not mean that an article should be on Wikipedia. The one thing that the Bloodbath article has over the Ragnarok article is that the battle itself was covered in reliable independent media sources (The article includes citations from Wired, Polygon, PC Gamer, The Verge, the Epoch Times and Discovery News). The claim that the text appears to be taken from operamusica.com is simply not true. For operamusica.com clearly states a very old biography of director Floris Visser. Next to that: this specific biography of opera director Floris Visser on operamusica.com was taken from an old biography by Alferink Artists Management, his management worldwide, and the copyright on this lies with Alferink Artists Management. For while creating my contribution to Wikipedia I was in contact with Alferink Artists Management to get the latest and updated biographical material of director Floris Visser and specifically got it copyright free, to avoid any copyright claims, but also to check whether the information on operamusica.com (and other websites) was correct. For a lot wasn't up to date anymore according to other sources, so I rewrote most of it, added much from my own sources, triple checked a lot - note I used: over 70 sources & references -, and also left a lot out, otherwise the article simply would have gotten too long. So again: I was anyway forced to rewrite a lot, but the "source-biography" by Alferink Artists Management I specifically got copyright free. So my question now is: how should I proceed? I followed all the guidelines to my feeling, and did not violate any copyright rules. Please advice me, for this is my first contribution to Wikipedia, and I don't really know how to proceed at the moment, which I find a huge pity after all the hard work I put into creating this article. I think your anger is misplaced. I didn't reject your article at all. I left a comment on the article because I wasn't sure whether the subject fit the Wikipedia requirements. In fact, in order to help your case, I brought in an expert from the MMA Wikiproject to give me a better idea before making a decision. It was a different user who rejected the article. That being said, submitting an article to Wikipedia can be a long process of trial and error, and it is important to take a positive attitude when dealing with other editors. Thanks for you excellent work here, which is very much appreciated. Not that you are doing anything wrong, but I have two suggestions about things that I've recently learned:

When an article is promotional as well as having a non-notable subject, it is now possible to give both reasons. I do this whenever it applies, because to some extent promotionalism can be the more critical of the two, and giving it as a reason also discourages the usually promotional editpr from trying to continue with essentially unaltered versions that do not fix the main problem

At this time of year, we will get many articles that are school projects. Sometimes the project has students work on it in their sandbox, instead of off-wiki. Doing that is probably not a great idea, but we don't want to prescribe how other people must conduct their projects. (And some faculty get unreasonably angry if we appear to interfere with them when we don't really have to.) If it seems like the article is still being worked on, it's better to leave int in Sandbox space. If it's being worked on but is already ready for mainspace, sI sometimes suggest they move it to draft and submit it. If of course it has not been worked on for a while (as is likely to be the case by August), then if it has any possibilities, I certainly move it to draft space -- and if it is good enough, accept it.

You make a good point Barkeep49. I had accepted a Belgian politician earlier who was a former member of the House of Representatives and a lobbyist for the Azeris but now also Mayor. The original article is up on the Dutch Wiki, though that's more of a WP:OSE cop-out than anything else. I think the argument becomes "Does Oostkamp count as at least a city of regional prominence to survive an AfD", as mentioned in WP:POLOUTCOMES. That is difficult to say, and by all means if you want to put the article up for AfD for not meeting WP:NPOL, I'll totally understand. So the various permutations of my 18 selected sources more than meets this benchmark.

Whether you like him or not, the subject is unquestionably a successful, entrepreneur of ultra-high-net-worth, as well as being a philanthropist who owns some of the most coveted art in the world, often making donations to public causes, as well as owning collection of rare classic cars and contributing to the highest echelons of British politics. This and much more places the notability of the subject beyond any genuine and reasonable doubt.

This new section is relating to your rejection of the request to publish Draft:Brandon Taylorian. I need to take some time to address your concerns with the article's creation and publication.

It seemed your main concern was in relation to the notability of the subject. The subject's notability can be derived from the ability of the young person in subject to become a published author at the age of nineteen and to have founded his own company that is linked to his book series.

I saw it happen with a draft about a bike company I approved. I'm not sure if we should move it from draftspace if we're unsure of its viability, especially if an AfD discussion already exists. We may also get criticism from people suggesting we have a political agenda for approving this particular candidate. Bradv, upon google searching I was able to find a variety of other sources on the exercise, which fit the notability test for me. However, I did have an internal debate about whether or not to accept the draft given the number of sources referenced. Please be mindful or your tone when interacting with other editors, and assume good faith. In the future, you are more than welcome to join the team at WP:AFC and accept and decline articles yourself. We could use all the help we can get when working through the backlog. Hi Cordless Larry! I probably should have reached out to you as opposed to DrStrauss on this article, seeing as he has since left the website. I tried my best to do a re-write of the Biography and His Students sections of the article, so those should be generally OK CV-wise, and have been fixed with INCITE when necessary. I'm not sure how to approach the section about publications. I think my main goal was to fix the WP:WEASEL and promo language that DrStrauss mentioned in his comment, as well as clean up some of the citations. In looking at the talk page for the article, did anyone get back to you about receiving a faxed copy of the information? I tried googling the Magazine in question and was unable to find it. No they didn't, unfortunately. I'm not sure how adding citations fixes the possibility of copyright violation (although it would help avoid the problem of plagiarism), but your rewriting will hopefully have ensured that the text is no longer identical to whatever the source of the translation was. Writing for Wikipedia is different than writing on another site. Because we are an encyclopedia, our main concern is not to write persuasively (to try and convince someone that something is good/bad) but instead to write the information in a way that educates the reader, but remains in a neutral point of view. This can be difficult, and even some of the best editors struggle with it from time to time. Remember to cite your sources and choose reliable sources when you are citing references. According to Wikipedia's notability guidelines for sports-related articles, This guideline does not provide any criteria for the presumed notability of sports teams. Teams are expected to demonstrate notability by the general notability guideline. According to Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Notability also gives guidelines on teams and football clubs. Wikipedia also has guidelines for soccer leagues they consider to be fully professional. In its current form, your draft doesn't meet any of those guidelines. Because it relies on only one source. Take a look at TigerSwan as an example. It has a variety of sources from reliable publications that offer coverage that is independent of the company, meaning that they aren't press releases by the company, or written by someone in the company or taken directly from the company's website. Additionally, 1-2 sentences does not make a quality article. Plus "our post"? Are you involved with this company? If so, you should probably read Wikipedia's policies around conflict of interest and paid editing. Finally, thank you for bringing up Validas. Just because other stuff exists does not mean that everything gets a Wikipedia article. You are absolutely right, the article for Validas has no references and reads like it was copy-pasted directly from the company website. Emma's Revolution, now with more sources

Hello Bkissin,

I added more sources to the proposed article on Emma's Revolution. New sources include an academic paper attesting to their importance, as well as a Washington Post article featuring them as part of a "new movement". This is in addition to the NPR All Things Considered piece focused on one of their songs, and the New York Times article already cited. These are reliable sources, and not trivial. Activist folk music cannot be judged by pop music commercial standards, but when Pete Seeger says they're important, that seems notable. Can you tell me if I should resubmit? Thank you for your help! This is not to argue with you, OK? I'm stating my reasons here on why I wrote such statements then if its possible that you tell me how it can be improved:

OK, I guess I kinda understand what's going on now. For the census information, since it's sourced directly from the Census Bureau, you should be able to add that to the article. Look at how the information from the 2000 census is written and try to incorporate the information that way. With the list of Mayors, I'd hold on to that until you have sources for all of them. I would probably avoid adding most of the Awards section, as it comes off way to promotional and there's already a conflict of interest and paid editing going on. If you wanted, you could add the Atlas Integrated source to the article, referencing it right next to the sentence talking about the award. In the future, to have your information reviewed on an article that already exists, I would suggest reaching out to another user, like you did with John from Idegon and SuperMarioMan to have them review your work. OK, there is plenty to unpack here. First of all, just because other stuff exists does not give you article a right to exist. The South Park articles are heavily sourced by reliable secondary sources in national publications, whereas the articles you have created for Martha Speaks are sourced from TVTropes (not exactly a reliable source), the PBS website (which is not independent of the subject at hand), Barnes and Noble, and Answers.com. The characters of South Park are internationally recognizable, as opposed to the characters of your PBS show. I'm sorry you don't think that's a good enough excuse. As for the "dirty-minded, profane and evil" of the South Park characters, I'm sorry you feel that way as well. There's nothing I can do about that. I don't see them "being honored" as you put it, as the articles have not been given featured article status. If you are upset about profane content on Wikipedia, you don't have to come to the website. Additionally, if you are upset about your articles being declined (and they will continue to be declined), there are two different Wiki fan-sites for Martha Speaks fans, here and here. Finally, "I am not insane" is not a great thing to tell people to prove that you aren't insane. If you would still like to participate here at Wikipedia, you are more than welcome to. As to your question regarding if Heritage Saint-Norbert is related to St. Norbert Provincial Heritage Park, they are completely separate organisations. Lastly, the focus of the article was intended to be of the organisation itself, so that's the reason why I have now moved the "Features" and "Historical Buildings" to the St. Norbert, Winnipeg article. Is that all that you were after? Clarifying musician notability for resubmission

Hi there, I noticed you declined my submission of this article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Simon_Balthazar

However, I can see from the Wikipedia's guide on notability in music that the subject fulfills several of the points that would make the article qualify. Do the references need to specifically clarify this? The music has been released on a major label, the subject has been a guest on major TV shows, the music has been awarded a gold disk in the US and it has also been featured in several major movies. I didn't create specific references to back these things up - should I do that and resubmit? Or let me know what would be needed for the article to be approved.

question regarding Draft:Maybelline the Nudes Palette Campaign

Hi Bkissin, thanks for the feedback. I wanted to ask re the draft that I am writing, whether something still discussing the same subject matter could be submitted, but with less emphasis on the product features itself, so it would not read like an advertisement for the product. The majority of the sources used are from marketing related forums, discussing the components of the campaign itself. I personally feel that the article is important because it describes a modern, multiplatform marketing campaign that combined both social media, Youtube and traditional platforms to market a product, and that was supposed to be the emphasis of the article. Is it possible I could alter the article to make the focus on the campaign, and not the product (because that was not what I intended) and in effect, have the article valid for move to the mainspace? I understand where you come from, however, in terms of how this could probably be interpreted as an advertisement.

Unfortunately Leslie Joy Whitehead has to be CSDed as a copyright infringement of [4]. The author is probably the same author as that article. The article was a great read and the subject appears quite notable, which is regrettable. I'll chat with the author about it. 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray list

Dear Bkissin,

Thank you for taking an interest in my attempt at a new article. I'm sorry that you don't think it suitable for Wikipedia. I offered it up because I couldn't find an alphabetical index of 4K discs elsewhere, and I imagined that fellow collectors might find such a list a more convenient resource for seeing what's available than the slow-loading, disorderly listings on retail websites. I hoped that Wikipedia's editing options would also allow other collectors to add new titles to the list as they were released, keeping it nicely current. If Wikipedia can find room for a list of Elvis Presley albums, can it really not host a list of 4K Blu-rays too? To me, Wikipedia's elasticity, accessibility and scope for updating make it the ideal platform for my little idea. But whether I've persuaded you or not, thank you again for taking the time to think about my suggestion.

Updates to Lewis Latimer House entry

Hi Bkissin, Thanks for your comment and sorry for the confusion. Yes, I was trying to update the Lewis Latimer House entry, not create a new entry. I was asked by my supervisor to make the edits first in Sandbox before publishing to make sure the formatting was correct. Is there a preferred way to make submissions if I edit other entries in the future?

We were hoping to update this entry from being a "stub" to a regular entry, so if you have any feedback on that, I'd appreciate it.

I appreciate the effort Cjedlicka18! As far as I can see the formatting looks great. You should be able to just copy and paste what you have in your sandbox (or, now in Draft:Lewis H. Latimer House) and paste it into the existing article. I'll go ahead and decline the draft version I created, but don't take that personal. If an article already exists, we don't want to create a duplicate! :)
Are you working for someone and getting paid to edit Wikipedia? If so, I'd ask that you read our policy on that. Otherwise, in terms of editing other entries in the future, if an article already exists for the topic, I would say you should be able to make changes directly to that article. If you are creating a new article, then I would say work on it in your sandbox and when you are ready to have a reviewer look at it and determine whether it is ready for Wikipedia, then submit it. Hi! What with the copyvio, the inappropriate use of affiliated refs and the apparent COI, I thought it best to move this one back to draft space and give the editor another chance; I hope you don't mind? The alternative (which I did consider) was AfD. This is just my opinion, but I'm going to give it anyway: for any school below high-school level, there needs to be significant independent coverage to justify even thinking of having a page; a private school is a commercial business and should meet the requirements of WP:NCORP. The only source that you have cited in your article about the Columban Catholic Art Calendar comes from the Columban Mission Society. When we talk about Wikipedia:Identifying and using independent sources, we have a variety of reasons. First is to establish a neutral point of view. A source that is not connected to the Church has the ability to be more objective and (hopefully) isn't going to just be an advertisement for the Calendar itself. Of course the Mission Society thinks that this calendar is important; it's one of their major sources of income! Think about this rule when we look at your article:

Hello,

I understand you denied my submission of CryptoAsset and would like you to reconsider.

A Cryptoasset is not the same as a digital asset the same way a cryptocurrency is not the same as a digital currency. If anything, a cryptoasset is under the broader digital asset umbrella.

Cryptoassets are the natural evolution of cryptocurrencies and there are enough mentions to it on Google to make a differentiation to digital assets. For example, nobody in the "crypto" community would refer to Ethereum-issued tokens as digital assets, but as cryptoassets.

The name of Mr. Papageorgiou can be found in this (http://www.ggk.gov.gr/?page_id=138) official link of the General Secretariat of the Government, where he is clearly listed as a member of the General Secretariat of the Government. Also, could you please help me understand which citation to Βικιπαίδεια do I have to delete? Because none of the 14 references listed in the article come from Βικιπαίδεια. Xfinity Mobile Article

Hi Bkissin,

I saw that the Xfinity Mobile article was rejected and wanted to provide more context and hopes that you’ll reconsider.

Reason for rejection: The content already exists on the Xfinity Wikipedia page (parent company) and /Xfinity_Mobile redirects to that parent company's page. Being that Xfinity Mobile is a subsidiary, I believe that it should qualify for its own Wikipedia article, separate from the parent company. The company information, including the info box, would better serve people with a dedicated page.

That is what happened to the link you sent me and is exactly what I was trying to rectify by creating an actual page for the subject.

Question regarding Draft:Businesses in the UK Impacted by Brexit

Hello Bkissin,

You didn't approve my article on the grounds that it already exists in the form of Economic effects of Brexit. While the articles are similar, I do not see a section in the Economic effects of Brexit article regarding businesses which have taken direct action as a result of Brexit, which instead focuses more on speculation and commentary. While the article I submitted in it's current state is quite short, I believe it could grow quite large and I wouldn't wish to clutter the Economic effects of Brexit article with all this extra information.

Hello, Re: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Cardano_(cryptocurrency_platform) I've been talking to people at Wikipedia for the past few weeks about the aggressive censorship of anything to do with Cardano/IOHK/Ada resulting in a hole in Wikipedia coverage. This argues that Cardano is more notable than most of the currencies listed at List of cryptocurrencies but is mentioned nowhere on Wikipedia. Please do not delete the page while it is worked on for valid citations. Except that both David Gerard and Џ have informed you that regardless of the "hole in Wikipedia coverage", that several other crypto articles have also been unable to make it past general sanctions. Why do we have those sanctions, you might ask? Because some users with a conflict of interest try to promote cryptos they work for in order to increase the value of said currency. David Gerard says as much on the talk page you mentioned, suggesting that you have a conflict of interest on this particular article since you are employed by IOHK. It is obvious that - like many of the other non-crypto commercial topics covered on Wikipedia - investors may "try to promote cryptos they work for in order to increase the value of said currency" [put the name of the stock of any listed company on Wikipedia in that sentence; or their many products; or coin collectors or Sherlock Holmes ephemera - does Wikipedia really make that much difference?]. However, Wikipedia has pages on about 30 other cryptos while any mention at all of IOHK/Cardano/Ada is deleted within hours. Cardano/Ada is more notable than most of these other cryptos for several reasons: it is based on published theories and algorithms developed by academics with a large blockchain lab set up at Edinburgh with leading computer scientists and legal academics; these theories are tested by submission to academic conferences for peer review; it is based on proof-of-stake; it hovers between 5 and 12 on the list of top coins; its code base has been written from scratch; it is trying to tackle the issue of security using functional programming techniques and the innovative language Haskell; its two founders are building on their experience of launching Ethereum; IOHK has provided a wide range of tools and testing packages for developers and exchanges to write smart contracts. This strategy is innovative and worthy of note. Blockchain technologies such as Cardano are vying both to provide an alternative to the financial system, and be adopted by it. Some developing countries see it as a way of creating a mobile-phone-based banking system. The global derivatives standards body ISDA says: "Smart contracts could help revolutionize the derivatives market by creating much-needed efficiencies". A wikipedia article should be less about writing an essay or telling a narrative to convince someone, but to convey the information. Howdy OrkneyLad1996! I had a couple issues with the draft in its current form. First of all, I wasn't able to understand what the article was about without more WP:CONTEXT. I had no idea that it was about professional darts until I looked through your previous contributions. I think my biggest issue, however, is the lack of sources for the article. Usually we aim (pun not intended) for citations from three different reliable sources that are not related to the subject (so citing the PDC wouldn't count). That would show that it's notable. Now, we don't have a lot of Wikipedia policy on what darts games are notable. The closest we have is WP:SPORTSEVENT. That section brings up some interesting points that you may want to consider as you continue to work on this subject, mainly
  • Articles about notable games should have well-sourced prose, not merely a list of stats. Regular season games in professional and college leagues are not inherently notable.
  • For a games or series that is already covered as a subtopic in another article, consider developing the topic in the existing article first until it becomes clearer that a standalone article is warranted. Although a game or series may be notable, it may sometimes be better to present the topic in an existing article on a broader topic instead of creating a new standalone page.

The Hotel Lobby submission

Hey there! I was trying to update my page because it wasn't properly linked. The artist is The Hotel Lobby and they played the Wango Tango Village Stage in 2014 and 2015. The problem is that it was listed as Hotel Lobby and it went to a hotel lobby lol. The artist is actually called "The Hotel Lobby". What I would say is wait until he plays a game in the league first, since the guidelines say he has to appear in a professional match to be notable. You recently rejected my proposed page on Miroslaw Romanowski, for lack of sources. Unfortunately there are no sources for his biography other than my interview of his daughter, Sylvie Romanowski. Nevertheless, I believe that Miroslaw Romanowski should have a Wikipedia page because there is an important Canadian science medal that is named in his honour. The medal itself has a Wikipedia page, but there is no information there about Romanowski himself. None of the material in the article I wrote is controversial at all, and so I suggest that it is still appropriate to put up a Wikipedia page about Mirosalaw Romanowski, even though no-one else has written about him and therefore there are no sources to cite.

Hello Lou Renwick! So, let me address a couple things you have mentioned here. First, you don't have to create a new draft article to add information to an existing Wikipedia article. However, any information you do add to Wikipedia has to be backed up and verified by reliable sources. If you have information that contradicts the information from the National Trust, you can add it as long as you have information that can be proven by someone other than yourself. Crip (disability pride)

Hi Bkissin, thank you so much for reviewing my draft so quickly! (This is in response to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Thecalloutcrips. I'm still getting used to Wikipedia, so I hope it's all right to respond to you on your talk page.)

The original and main reason I created a Wikipedia account, and made enough edits to earn draft creation privileges, was to create an article on "Crip" as it relates to disability pride. Thank you for commenting that you found it interesting! The rationale you gave for declining the draft was this:

> There is no differentiation in articles between negative uses of words like F*ggot or the N-word and their re-use as a matter of pride within the oppressed community.

What about "queer"? I think that "crip" is a different case from the ones you mentioned, for a few reasons:

  1. "Crip" is being used in major cultural movements (e.g. #CripTheVote) that expand beyond simply being colloquial insider terminology within oppressed group. The intent of the article is to be more than a definition. For example, we planned to expand on other cultural usages of Crip, such as major events like Cripfest (https://www.metro.us/new-york/disabled-new-yorkers-reclaim-the-c-word-cripfest-is-coming-to-brooklyn/zsJogu---66pBuA9ciVxKc, https://cripfest.splashthat.com/).
  2. "Crip" is not quite in the same category as F*ggot and the N-word. The word that would be in that category is "cripple". "Crip" isn't the same construction or meaning (or the same level of offensiveness, as evidenced by the fact that we can write it without asterisks).
  3. "Crip" is more akin to "queer", which does have its own page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queer) that is separate from pages like sexual orientation (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexual_orientation). Like "queer", it should have its own page.
  4. "Crip" in the sense of disability pride faces extremely low recognition, far lower than any of the other terms you or I have mentioned. On top of that, all searches for it are overwhelmed by results for the other major usage, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/crips). Recognition, even in the form of a simple Wikipedia article, would go a long way towards validating the disability community.

You also suggested this:

I did consider this, but this does not solve #3 and #4 above. Perhaps a compromise would be to change the title of the Cripple article to "Crip"? However, as I mentioned, "cripple" and "crip" are not interchangeable. Do you think it would be preferable to change the title of the existing article, or to create a new article, given the points above?

Thanks for reaching out Thecalloutcrips. There are a few different things here that I'll continue to discuss.
  1. With your example of Queer, I'll note that the page encompasses both the pejorative and reclaimed use of the term, similar to the ways that the other two terms I mentioned do. That's why I thought that perhaps being merged into the existing article would be helpful. I certainly understand that "cripple" and "crip" are not interchangeable, but the latter has roots in the former.
  2. The other aspect is about what Wikipedia is for. Many would argue that as an impartial encyclopedia, it is not our place to right great wrongs of society through our work. The article for the street gang is going to be searched more and more popular at this point than the reclaimed term. If the article was accepted, we would have to disambiguate it from the article about the street gang, so it would probably be titled something like Crip (disability term).

User:Bkissin - First, the primary usage should be the street gang, with a hatnote either to the alternate use or to the disambiguation page, if there are more than two meanings. I haven't reviewed the draft in detail, but this may be (and I am not saying is) a case where the term calls for a brief article. Second, however, you pinged Legacypac, so you may not be aware of the discussion at WP:AN and might want to contribute. Legacypac has been blocked for a personal attack resulting from deletion discussions, and there is discussion of how long to block and when to unblock. Great points, thank you, Bkissin! "Crip (disability term)" would be awesome. I completely understand about Wikipedia not being a place to right great wrongs. I tried to write the article as impartially as possible, using legitimate sources (I can also add information about the pejorative use, as well as any contemporary controversies). I genuinely see the need for the information I added—along with a title that says "Crip", not "cripple"—being not for the purpose of righting a great wrong, but serving an encyclopedic information need that is not currently being served anywhere else. Looking forward to hearing whether others think it's best to edit the title of the existing page to "Crip (disability term)" or create a new page with that title. Thank you!

I put it on ECP move protection, to stop newbies moving it to mainspace after it failed AFC.
Autobiographical promos like this are a high-volume nuisance. 'Webplanet's move of Draft:David J. Maloney to mainspace after a failed AFC was bad enough, but their move of it to the title David J. Nope, it's so I don't have editors reaching out to me multiple times when they have drafts that will never be accepted. Yours are an exception. If I haven't reviewed it, it means I had a difficult time making a determination on notability. Otherwise, the canned responses are usually enough to explain why a draft wasn't accepted. Your Reason for Declining Dawn Smith Jordan draft

You said, "Being a Miss America runner-up is not notability..." which seems inconsistent with existing pages on Wikipedia. For example, as I look at the list of other Miss South Carolina winners in Wikipedia, there a number of former winners with their own pages and most have their chief measure of notability as winning Miss South Carolina. Note that you have to win Miss South Carolina to even compete in Miss America, and Dawn Smith was a finalist in Miss America. A good specific example is Ali Rogers (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ali_Rogers). Ali Rogers has nothing more on her page other than winning beauty pageants, the most significant being Miss South Carolina and also was a finalist in Miss America. She did not sing in a Billy Graham crusade, hasn't recorded songs, written books, have an active ministry throughout the United States, and so forth. I intend to continue to add to the draft providing additional items of notability, but the above comment by itself is inconsistent with what I already see approved on Wikipedia. My assumption is it will eventually get approved as I document more, but I contend it should already be approved based on what I see on Ali Rogers' page.

Draft:Cooper Barnes (actor)

It's irreverent now, as the draft's creator has been blocked as a sockpuppet, but your decline of the above was for an erroneous reason. For what it's worth I would have declined it for notability, but you declined it as "an article on the subject already exists." It doesn't. There is a redirect by that title, and creating an actual article to replace a redirect is a perfectly acceptable use of AfC and draftspace. Just a heads up. Regarding the sources they are all published by independant publications who have invited and interviewed Ms. Jafri, hence all the magazine and newspapers are notable publication coverage and are done by independant journalist who featured Ms. Jafri during her book launch and TEDx talk. I will phrase and word it better to cover the points. Pages in 'Renaissance fair performers' category that should be deleted

Hello. You've said you're going to get rid of the Wikipedia pages of Twig the Fairy and Tudor Tarts. That's a good start, but here are others that, according to wikipedias own standards, should not have their own pages, and should be deleted:

1) Jolly Rogers, only 1 reference and its their own web site.

2) Flaming Idiots, only 3 references, and all in Texas.

3) poxy boggards, only 2 references.

4) albanach, ZERO references.

5) brobdingnagian bards, only 1 reference, and its their own website.

6) eric Forsberg, only 1 reference, and it's his mother's obituary, saying he's her son.

7) marc gunn, only 1 reference, and its his own website.

8) known world players, ZERO references.

9) steve macdonald, only 3 references, 1 of which is his own website and 1 of which is his own blog.

10) pirate shantyman and his bonnie lass, only 3 references, 1 of which is a youtube video, 1 of which is just a picture of them (maybe, who knows), and 1 of which is their own website.

11) three quarter ale, ZERO references.

If what I submitted for Arthur Greenleaf Holmes doesn't qualify with FOUR references, NONE of the 11 on the above list qualify either. On the other hand, if they're allowed to stay, Arthur Greenleaf Holmes should get his own page also, since I provided more references for him than any of the no-names on this list have. I already submitted Three Quarter Ale, Jolly Rogers and Known World Players for deletion. I submitted Pirate Shantyman and his Bonnie Lass for deletion today. Eric Forsberg, as a director for The Asylum, may have a credible case for notability, so I added more sources (though none of them are great). Sources were added to Albannach as well. Marc Gunn, Poxy Boggards and Brobdingnagian Bards may also have a case for notability for a variety of mainstream reasons. History of Rand Flem-Ath page-a version was recently rejected by you

It’s come to my attention that a long-time editor on Wikipedia is once again attempting to manipulate the site in order to fulfill a personal vendetta against me. The first attempt to do this happened after he had been forced to apologize to me (in writing, by the university that employs him) for a vicious online ad hominin attack. In 2012, he used one of his own students as an unwitting proxy - that’s if the student even existed - to create the original page, “Rand Flem-Ath”. It was full of inaccuracies and outright lies. (It’s safe to say that when Wiki Education was introduced, they did not envision that it would be abused in this way.) When Wikipedia Administrators became aware of the circumstances of the page’s creation, they removed it - everything that he had written - and substituted the neutral POV, minimal version. He’s now attempting to succeed where he failed before, by again putting my name on a ‘wish list’ of articles he wants students to create or edit. Perhaps he thinks that enough time has gone by that this new effort won’t be noticed. Or he believes that his academic persona and long familiarity with Wikipedia will give him a free pass. So that, despite his demonstrated personal animosity towards the BLP subject, and his history with that page, that he will be free to edit it with impunity or encourage students (over whom he has a position of great authority) to edit it. An example of one slight-of-hand manipulation is exhibited here: “The role of the work of the Flem-Aths should also be considered in books about Atlantis by [name redacted] and others. Together, these may make the case for notability that is required by Wikipedia.” This is the most sickening, cynical aspect of this situation. The person he is trying to bring onto my page is associated with Nazis. This teacher is brazenly trying to convince the student (a person reliant on him for a grade) to set up a ‘guilt by association’ status for me on one of the most popular websites on the planet, simply because I offend him by writing about Atlantis, and he can’t forget the fact that he went so far over the line in attacking me that an apology had to be issued. This trivialization of the horror and terrible suffering inflicted by the Nazis - just so that a personal grudge can be satisfied – is contemptible. An Administrator - Bkissin - has rejected – for other reasons – I don’t think s/he is aware of this history - the most recent attempt to hi-jack the page. And now – May 15 - this instructor, who has had years of experience editing Wikipedia – has assumed a hands-on approach with the page to try and ensure its acceptance. I realize that an Administrator’s workload is heavy – but I would ask that someone keep a fresh eye on the page with my name on it. The first note on my Talk page was placed there in anticipation of exactly the situation that has now arisen. It’s regrettable that my concern has turned out to be justified. The vicious online ad hominem attack was a negative Amazon review in 2001. Hoopes used the quote "“There’s a sucker born every minute” and said that a lot of suckers would buy the book. Hardly vicious. Most of the rest is simply not true either, but you don't need the detail (available if you want). What is unpleasant is this author writing on his article's talk page that the Professor was discipline, which is simply not true. I can see that you rejected the draft, here's what Hoopes had to say about it. User talk:Indianasorell/sandbox/Rand and Rose Flem-Ath The Nazi bit is weird, it refers to Frank Joseph, an ex-Nazi and now writing pseudoarchaeology and whose has had his work included along with Flem-Ath's in a book.[5] I'm surprised that Flem-Ath allowed that if he feels so strongly(and I don't blame him for the feeling, only for suggesting mentioning Joseph is an attempt to link him with Nazis). I was also just wanting to ask a question about changing the title of the page, upon greater investigation the geographical location is more commonly known as the 'Mount Windsor Tableland' as opposed to the 'Windsor Tablelands'.

You claim they've toured extensively around Southern Ontario. Your sources are indie-punk websites. We need qualifying newspaper coverage per WP:SIGCOV. Thanks Chris- but there are a number of Canadian bands that have no "Grammy- gold records- major label releases that are on Wikapedia- Socan magazine is cited here- which is the Society of Canadian music publishing- actual magazine and quite known in the music industry in Canada (where all music artist register their music) There has also been coverage in local magazines- In the hills and Orangeville Banner paper.

So the precedence has not been only million selling - gold record acts on major labels. So here is a band that has recorded and released three albums- and has played a number of shows- over 60 in the past two years and a bit.

The leader of the band is a member of Fifth Column cited internationally as a top seminal band of female punk influencers (no major labels or million sellers either)

So what exactly is the criteria you are looking for - notable musical artist or commerce only??

I'm trying to create a page for a band that creates, records, releases music and actively tours- I did not promote anything further than artistically this is what they have accomplished so far and the history there of. There is no go buy the album but who they have worked with and what they have done. Is this not the idea of the information behind this site??

Looking for guidance here- but at the end of the day you can reject it when I can site numerous example of this is not the criteria used when recording artistic projects.
