On 22 November 2014, [[Pope francis]] accepted the resignation of Bishop Browne and appointed his successor, [[Stephen Lowe (New Zealand bishop-elect|Father Stephen Marmion Lowe]] as the 3rd Bishop of Hamilton. Until recently, Fr Lowe was the director of formation at the National Seminary, Holy Cross College, in Ponsonby, Auckland. The Latin Church Catholic Diocese of Hamilton, New Zealand is a suffragan diocese of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Wellington. It is centred in Hamilton, New Zealand and was formed on 6 March 1980 from a portion of the territory in the Diocese of Auckland.
