The 73rd Battalion (Royal Highlanders of Canada), CEF was an infantry battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force during the Great War. The 73rd Battalion was authorized on 10 July 1915 and embarked for Great Britain on 31 March 1916. It disembarked in France on 13 August 1916, where it fought as part of the 12th Infantry Brigade, 4th Canadian Division until 9 April 1917 when it was withdrawn from the line after Vimy and broken up to provide reinforcements. The troops were distributed amongst the 13th Battalion (Royal Highlanders of Canada), CEF, the 42nd Battalion (Royal Highlanders of Canada), CEF and the 85th Battalion (Nova Scotia Highlanders), CEF. The battalion was subsequently disbanded on 19 April 1917.[1] [2]

The 72nd Battalion recruited in Montreal, Quebec and Almonte, Ontario and was mobilized at Montreal. [3]

The 73rd Battalion was commanded by Lt.-Col. P. Davidson, from 1 April 1916 to 12 December 1916 and by Lt.-Col. H.C. Sparling, DSO, from 12 December 1916 to 19 April 1917. [4]
