Ronald Fong Sang, ONZM (born Fiji 11 July 1938), is a Auckland Architect, art collector, art exhibitor and publisher of New Zealand Art books.[1]

Early life

Sang arrived in Auckland in 1957. He received his secondary education at Marist Brothers High School, Fiji and St Peter's College, Grafton. He studied architecture at the University of Auckland (1958-1961).[2]

Architecture

As an architect, Sang has engaged in both commercial and domestic architecture. He has a special interest in using New Zealand artworks in domestic and commercial interiors. He is a committee member of the Aotea Centre Works of Art Committee from 1988.[2] He has developed a New Zealand art collection including paintings, prints, sculpture, pottery, and weaving.[3] This collection includes significant New Zealand artists such as Colin McCahon and Bill Hammond.[4] Sang has published books on New Zealand artists[5] In 2013, Sang was co-chairman of the Auckland Chinese Garden steering committee.[6]


In the 2000 Birthday Honours, Sang was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to architecture and the arts.
