Facade of the cathedral

The Veracruz Cathedral, dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption, is located in the historic center of the city of Veracruz, Veracruz, Mexico. It was consecrated as such in 1963.

Previous to the building, there was a parish of modest proportions. The current was built in the early 17th century and was completed in 1731. It has a single tower on your right side.

The building

It has a basilica and has 5 naves, the central greater than the lateral. The dome of the building is octagonal in shape, has a small lantern and Puebla tiles covering the dome. The tower, with three bodies and has a small dome.

The main entrance is of simple lines. Neoclassical style, has two and a pediment. The first body has an entrance arch of half point guarded by even columns on the sides and two columns at the corners, both Doric order and forming two grooves, these support a cornice on which shows the upper body. In the middle of the second body position window of the choir and is a medallion. Repeat the same set of columns of the first body, but of the Ionic order. The auction, a pediment tirangular, has a medallion in the center.

The interior is simple and highlight the Baccarat crystal chandeliers and the altar. These pieces adorn the aisle, were a gift from Austria-Hungary empire.
