Kronan (Swedish: Crownbicycles are marketed by marketed by Kronan Trademark AB, was established in June 1997 by three ex-students, John Wahlbäck and the brothers Henry and Martin Avander. In autumn 2003 the company was bought by the Brunstedt family and Mary Brunstedt is the company's CEO.
It began when John Wahlbäck as a student sold the m/42 surplus bikes. After having sold out the approximately 10 000 cycles, Kronan was chosen to produce a virgin copy. They bought the original drawings from the Ministry of Defense and sent it and an order to an OEM manufacturers in Taiwan. Today's Kronan Bicycle has been modernized slightly, but has the same design as in the 1940s.
The company sells directly to end customers or through a company as a kind of business cycle. Since 1999, Kronan has been selling in the Netherlands and England . In the beginning the bikes were painted and put together in Sweden by Samhall in Malmo, but today they are assembled in Poland with parts from Asia .
In 2005, Crown Stroller as a new product in its range and a "cargo" bike is a bike with a front-mounted basket (of goods or dog) and a front wheel, located below, which has a smaller diameter than the rear wheel. Krona Stroller is available as Duovagn and Sulky.
Kronan bikes now come in a variety of colors, compared to the matte green and gray of the military surplus models, and can even be purchased with three-speed SRAM hubs and front brakes.[1] Unlike the military surplus m/42s, these have been widely exported to other countries.
There have been reports of quality control problems with some of the new bicycles emerged on the internet soon after they went on sale in the US.
