Peter Musson (born 1939): is a professional Bassoonist and performs widely as a soloist, as a member of chamber music ensembles and is well known as a commercial reed maker.[1]
Backround
Musson born in Auckland, New Zealand and was educated at St Peter's College. At the age of sixteen he joined the N.Z.B.C Symphony Orchestra. [2]
Professional career
Musson remained with the NZBC Symphony Orchetra for twelve years, becoming Principal Bassoonist and also a member of the New Zealand Wind Quintet. In 1967 he left New Zealand in order to broaden his musical experience and travelled widely. After a period as a free-lance player in London he was appointed to Principal positions with in turn, the Ulster Orchestra in Belfast, the Durban Symphony Orchestra in South Africa, the Niederrhein Sinfoniker in Germany and the Queensland Symphony Orchestra in Brisbane. Musson has also appeared as Guest Principal with such orchestras as the Royal Philharmonic orchestra, the Gurzenich Orchestra of Cologne, the Australian Chamber Orchestraand the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Teaching
In 1993, Musson left the Queensland Symphony Orchestra to join the staff of the Queensland Conservatorium where he held the position of Senior Lecturer in Bassoon until 2002. "Peter is a very successful teacher with former students now in professional performing and teaching positions on four continents". <ref name="Peter_Musson">
